Out of all the conflicts that the United States has been involved with, the Korean War stands as one of the least discussed. Yet despite the fact that the Korean War is easily overshadowed by both World War II and the Vietnam War, this little-known conflict was actually one of the most pivotal. The war that took place on the Korean Peninsula in the early 1950s was one of the first great tests of the Cold War. It took much blood and sacrifice to deter the communist North, but in the end, the U.S. and its allies were successful.
It remains debatable just how much the history of the free world has depended upon the successful stabilization of South Korea. Without these efforts, the economic powerhouse of South Korea that the world has come to know today certainly would not have been possible. This book explores the lead-up to the Korean war, the conflict itself, and the continuing aftermath of this ongoing struggle between North and South Korea.
