What About Rose Using Teacher Research to Reverse School Failure

Free Download Susan L. Lytle, Marilyn Cochran-Smith, ""What About Rose?" Using Teacher Research to Reverse School Failure"
English | 2007 | pages: 217 | ISBN: 0807747882 | PDF | 0,6 mb
Every year, thousands of urban minority students enter college academically underprepared to meet the challenges that await them. In this book, Smokey Wilson shares her 30-year-long search for better instructional strategies to help these adult learners (many of them African Americans) develop the basic literacy skills needed to succeed in college. Through detailed portraits of students in an urban community college, Wilson shows us when learning happens, why it happens, and what happens when it fails to appear. The text features "A Guide to Classroom Research for Teachers" that outlines the five stages of research and contains exercises to help jumpstart teachers who are tentative about doing research.

Watch This Space The Future of Australian Journalism

Free Download Milissa Deitz, "Watch This Space: The Future of Australian Journalism"
English | 2010 | pages: 162 | ISBN: 0521144280 | PDF | 0,9 mb
With traditional print media sinking under shrinking readerships, redundancies and declining advertising revenue, the imminent death of ‘quality’ journalism is being prophesied by academics, ✅Publishers and journalists. Are we losing a vital public sphere for interrogating those in power and creating local and national communities? Or is a moribund media status quo getting a long overdue shake up? Milissa Deitz argues that far from being the grave digger, the internet is in fact reinventing and reinvigorating ‘citizen journalism’. More democratic through interactivity and participation, more immediately responsive to rapidly changing events and issues, we increasingly go online for our news. Far from undermining traditional journalism, a changing mediascape composed of dedicated online journals, blogs, social networking, twitter and mobile telephony, is returning journalism to its radical and democratic roots, recreating the feisty, informed public domain extinguished over the twentieth century by the concentration of media ownership in Australia.

Visualizing Information Using SVG and X3D

Free Download Visualizing Information Using SVG and X3D By Vladimir Geroimenko DSc, PhD, MSc (auth.), Vladimir Geroimenko DSc, PhD, MSc, Chaomei Chen PhD,MSc, BSc (eds.)
2005 | 298 Pages | ISBN: 1852337907 | PDF | 4 MB
Correcting the Great Mistake People often mistake one thing for another. That’s human nature. However, one would expect the leaders in a particular ?eld of endeavour to have superior ab- ities to discriminate among the developments within that ?eld. That is why it is so perplexing that the technology elite – supposedly savvy folk such as software developers, marketers and businessmen – have continually mistaken Web-based graphics for something it is not. The ?rst great graphics technology for the Web,VRML,has been mistaken for something else since its inception. Viewed variously as a game system,a format for architectural walkthroughs,a platform for multi-user chat and an augmentation of reality,VRML may qualify as the least understood invention in the history of inf- mation technology. Perhaps it is so because when VRML was originally introduced it was touted as a tool for putting the shopping malls of the world online,at once prosaic and horrifyingly mundane to those of us who were developing it. Perhaps those ?rst two initials,"VR",created expectations of sprawling, photorealistic f- tasy landscapes for exploration and play across the Web. Or perhaps the magnitude of the invention was simply too great to be understood at the time by the many, ironically even by those spending the money to underwrite its development. Regardless of the reasons,VRML suffered in the mainstream as it was twisted to meet unintended ends and stretched far beyond its limitations.

Violence and Resistance, Art and Politics in Colombia

Free Download Violence and Resistance, Art and Politics in Colombia by Stephen Zepke, Nicolás Alvarado Castillo
English | April 21, 2023 | ISBN: 3031103254 | 311 pages | MOBI | 8.57 Mb
This book explores the historical and contemporary connections between art and politics in Colombia. These relations are unique because of the ways in which they are saturated by violence, as the country has passed through conquest, struggles for Independence, fighting between political factions, civil war, paramilitaries, narco-traffickers and state violence. This seemingly unending stream of violence gives art in Colombia one of its main themes. The lavishly illustrated essays, written by Colombian authors, examine Colombian visual arts, music, theatre, literature, cinema, indigenous arts, popular culture, militant publications and recent protest movements, analysing them with tools drawn from contemporary philosophy and theory. Approaches include decolonisation theory, cosmopolitics, anthropology after the ontological turn, Colombian philosophy, feminism, and French theory. The essays all offer powerful understandings of how art has not only been complicit in perpetuating political violence in Colombia, but also how it has been a vital form of analysis and resistance.
