The theme "Build and Conquer" chosen for this year’s conference fully represents what we (the organizers) want to put across to the software community: software development is an engineering discipline, and not an artistic expression. Once we are ready to "build" our software systems using pieces previously builtin (similar to any other technology manufacturer), we will be able to "conquer" the software engineering process. If we take a look at other engineering disciplines such as car manufacturing, house appliances or aeronautics, we see that the final products are built through the integration of multiprovider commercial components. These components are successfully integrated and constitute an important part of the final product. Most software-related organizations still build software from scratch, omitting thousands of ready-built commercially available software components that could be used very effectively during the development phase. This year ICCBSS moves to Europe for the first time since the first conference took place in Orlando, FL, USA in 2002. The conference scope has enlarged over the years to include the Open Source community and Web Services technologies. The reason for this is that I believe both are considered components-off-the-shelf, so many of the characteristics of COTS are also applied to Open Source and Web Services. Due to this, we will enjoy the presence of keynote speakers and researchers presenting on these two topics for the first time.

The Fourth International Conference on Unconventional Computation, UC 2005, organized under the auspices of EATCS by the Centre for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science and the Department of C- puter Science and Arti?cial Intelligence of the University of Seville, was held in Seville, October 3-7, 2005. Seville, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, is at its best in October. An explosion of colour and contrast: ?amenco, bull?ghting, and a lively at- sphere in the streets due to the open and friendly nature of its people. The river Guadalquivir, the Cathedral and the Golden Tower are all places full of magic where the visitor can feel the spirit of a city which is eternally romantic. The series of International Conferences Unconventional Computation (UC),https://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/CDMTCS/conferences/uc/isdevoted to all aspects of unconventional computation, theory as well as experiments and applications. Typical, but not exclusive, topics are: natural computing including quantum, cellular, molecular, neural and evolutionarycomputing; chaosand – namical systems based computing; and various proposals for computations that go beyond the Turing model. The ?rst venue of the Unconventional Computation Conference (formerly called Unconventional Models of Computation) was Auckland, New Zealand in 1998; subsequent sites of the conference were Brussels, Belgium in 2000 and Kobe, Japan in 2002. The titles of the proceedings volumes from past UC Conferences are as follows: 1. C.S. Calude, J. Casti, M.J. Dinneen (eds.). The GIScience conference series (www. giscience. org) was created as a forum for all researchers who are interested in advancing research in the fundam- tal aspects of geographic information science. Starting with GIScience 2000 in Savannah, Georgia, USA, the conferences have been held biennially, bringing together a highly interdisciplinary group of scientists from academia, industry, and governmentto analyze progressand to explore new researchdirections. The conferences focus on emerging topics and basic research ?ndings across all s- tors of geographic information science. After three highly successful conferences in the United States, this year’s GIScience conference was held in Europe for the ?rst time. The GIScience conferences have been a meeting point for researchers coming from various disciplines, including cognitive science, computer science, engine- ing, geography, information science, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, social science, and statistics. The advancement of geographic information science – quiressuchinterdisciplinarybreadth, andthisisalsowhatmakestheconferences so exciting. In order to account for the di?erent needs of the involved scienti?c disciplines with regard to publishing their research results, we again organized two separate stages of paper submission: 93 full papers were each thoroughly reviewed by three Program Committee members and 26 were selected for p- sentation at the conference and inclusion in this volume. Then, 159 extended abstracts, describing work in progress, were screened by two Program Comm- tee members each. Subsequently, 42 of them were selected for oral presentation, and 46 for poster presentation at the conference.

First of all, we appreciate the hard work of all the authors who contributed to ICEC 2005 by submitting their papers. ICEC 2005 attracted 95 technical paper submissions, 8 poster submissions and 7 demo submissions, in total 110. This number is nearly equal to ICEC 2004. Based on a thorough review and selection process carried out by 76 international experts from academia and industry as members of the senior and international program committees, a high-quality program was compiled. The program committee consisted of experts from all over the world: 1 from Austria, 3 from Bulgaria, 2 from Canada, 4 from China, 1 from Finland, 4 from France, 10 from Germany, 1 from Greece, 1 from Ireland, 1 from Israel, 1 from Italy, 26 from Japan, 1 from Korea, 4 from The Netherlands, 1 from New Zealand, 1 from Norway, 1 from Singapore, 1 from Thailand, 4 from the UK, and 8 from the USA. In this number, reviewers are included. The final decision was made at the senior program committee meeting based on three reviewers’ feedback, available online via the conference management tool. Through earnest and fair discussion at the meeting, 25 technical papers were accepted as long papers and 32 technical papers were accepted as short papers from 95 submitted technical papers. Moreover, 3 poster papers and 5 demo papers were accepted.

Multi-Agent Systems and Applications IV 4th International Central and Eastern European Conference on Multi-Agent Systems, CEEM

Free Download Multi-Agent Systems and Applications IV: 4th International Central and Eastern European Conference on Multi-Agent Systems, CEEMAS 2005, Budapest, Hungary, September 15 – 17, 2005. Proceedings By Giovanni Rimassa, Dominic Greenwood, Monique Calisti (auth.), Michael Pěchouček, Paolo Petta, László Zsolt Varga (eds.)
2005 | 670 Pages | ISBN: 354029046X | PDF | 11 MB
The aim of the CEEMAS conference series is to provide a biennial forum for the presentation of multi-agent research and development results. With its p- ticular geographicalorientation towards Central and Eastern Europe, CEEMAS has become an internationally recognised event with participants from all over the world. After the successful CEEMAS conferences in St. Petersburg (1999), Cracow (2001) and Prague (2003), the 2005 CEEMAS conference takes place in Budapest. The programme committee of the conference series consists of est- lished researchers from the region and renowned international colleagues, sh- ing the prominent rank of CEEMAS among the leading events in multi-agent systems. In the very competitive ?eld of agent oriented conferences and workshops nowadays(suchasAAMAS,WI/IAT,EUMAS,CIA,MATES)thespecialpro?le of CEEMAS is that it is trying to bridge the gap between applied research achievements and theoretical research activities. Our ambition is to provide a forum for presenting theoretical research with an evident application potential, implemented application prototypes and their properties, as well as industrial case studies of successful (but also unsuccessful) agent technology deployments. This is why the CEEMAS proceedings volume provides a collection of research and application papers. The technical research paper section of the proceedings (see pages 11-499) contains pure research papers as well as research results in application settings while the application papers section (see pages 500-530) contains papers focused on application aspects. The goal is to demonstrate the real life value and commercial reality of multi-agent systems as well as to foster communication between academia and industry in this ?eld.
