English | 2001 | ISBN: 1860941699 | 418 Pages | PDF (True) | 42 MB
The incidence of treated end stage renal disease (ESRD) continues to rise, particularly in the western world. Although renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for ESRD, the decline in the number of cadaveric organs, coupled with the rising demand for transplantation, means that an increasing number of patients will have to depend on dialysis. Vascular or peritoneal access is the Achilles’ heel of any dialysis service. This book offers a clear description of the state of the art in providing and preserving a durable and reliable access. It also points the way to dialysis in the 21st century. The contributing authors are drawn from a wide background, with expertise in various aspects of dialysis access, including its history, the technique of placement, anaesthesia, radiology, nursing care and training of vascular access surgeons. There is currently a dearth of books on the subject of dialysis access. The few existing books on vascular access were written in the United States, with none from the UK. This volume is intended for use by transplant surgeons, general surgeons with an interest in vascular access, vascular surgeons, nephrologists, trainees and nurses. Dialysis services are expanding worldwide and this book is an invaluable guide for those involved in daily patient care and organisation of dialysis services.

5G Fixed Wireless Access

Free Download 5G Fixed Wireless Access: Revolutionizing Connectivity in the Digital Age
English | 2025| ISBN: 3031775384 | 232 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 12 MB
This book explores the transformative potential of 5G technology in delivering high-speed broadband services through wireless means, particularly targeting underserved and rural areas. The book covers several key topics, including high-frequency spectrum bands, advanced transmission schemes, multi-connectivity, adaptive numerology, and Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB). These elements are critical for enhancing network performance, increasing capacity, and reducing latency. High-frequency spectrum bands, such as those above 24 GHz, are essential for providing the necessary bandwidth to support high data rates and capacity. The book explains how these bands, while offering unprecedented peak rates, present challenges such as limited coverage and penetration, which are addressed through advanced technical solutions. Advanced transmission schemes, including massive beamforming and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, are explored in detail. These technologies enable the efficient use of the spectrum by allowing multiple user terminals to be served simultaneously on the same frequency resources, thereby increasing the overall network capacity and improving user experiences. Multi-connectivity and adaptive numerology are also key topics. Multi-connectivity allows user equipment to connect to multiple network nodes simultaneously, improving reliability and performance.

Distributed Medium Access Control in Wireless Networks

Free Download Distributed Medium Access Control in Wireless Networks By Ping Wang, Weihua Zhuang (auth.)
2013 | 109 Pages | ISBN: 1461466016 | PDF | 2 MB
This brief investigates distributed medium access control (MAC) with QoS provisioning for both single- and multi-hop wireless networks including wireless local area networks (WLANs), wireless ad hoc networks, and wireless mesh networks. For WLANs, an efficient MAC scheme and a call admission control algorithm are presented to provide guaranteed QoS for voice traffic and, at the same time, increase the voice capacity significantly compared with the current WLAN standard. In addition, a novel token-based scheduling scheme is proposed to provide great flexibility and facility to the network service provider for service class management. Also proposed is a novel busy-tone based distributed MAC scheme for wireless ad hoc networks and a collision-free MAC scheme for wireless mesh networks, respectively, taking the different network characteristics into consideration. The proposed schemes enhance the QoS provisioning capability to real-time traffic and, at the same time, significantly improve the system throughput and fairness performance for data traffic, as compared with the most popular IEEE 802.11 MAC scheme.

Access to Financial Services in Nepal

Free Download Sabin Raj Shrestha, Guillemette Jaffrin, "Access to Financial Services in Nepal"
English | 2007 | pages: 104 | ISBN: 082136989X | PDF | 0,5 mb
Over the past 20 years Nepal’s financial sector has become deeper and the number and type of financial intermediaries have grown rapidly. Recent reforms have also made the banking sector more stable. Still, access to financial services remains limited for many people in Nepal, and has even been declining in recent years. ‘Access to Financial Services in Nepal’ examines the country’s supply of and demand for financial services and the constraints to increasing access to them. It offers recommendations on how to make the financial sector work for all of Nepal’s people, and especially for low-income households and small businesses.

Comparative Evaluation of Multilingual Information Access Systems 4th Workshop of the Cross-Language Evaluation Forum, CLEF 2003

Free Download Comparative Evaluation of Multilingual Information Access Systems: 4th Workshop of the Cross-Language Evaluation Forum, CLEF 2003, Trondheim, Norway, August 21-22, 2003, Revised Selected Papers By Julio Gonzalo, Carol Peters (auth.), Carol Peters, Julio Gonzalo, Martin Braschler, Michael Kluck (eds.)
2004 | 702 Pages | ISBN: 3540240179 | PDF | 5 MB
The fourth campaign of the Cross-language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) for European languages was held from January to August 2003. Participation in this campaign showed a slight rise in the number of participants from the previous year, with 42 groups submitting results for one or more of the different tracks (compared with 37 in 2002), but a steep rise in the number of experiments attempted. A distinctive feature of CLEF 2003 was the number of new tracks and tasks that were offered as pilot experiments. The aim was to try out new ideas and to encourage the development of new evaluation methodologies, suited to the emerging requirements of both system developers and users with respect to today’s digital collections and to encourage work on many European languages rather than just those most widely used. CLEF is thus gradually pushing its participants towards the ultimate goal: the development of truly multilingual systems capable of processing collections in diverse media. The campaign culminated in a two-day workshop held in Trondheim, Norway, 21-22 August, immediately following the 7th European Conference on Digital Libraries (ECDL 2003), and attended by more than 70 researchers and system developers. The objective of the workshop was to bring together the groups that had participated in the CLEF 2003 campaign so that they could report on the results of their experiments.

F. Jones, Michael Kluck, Bernardo Magnini (eds.)
2005 | 848 Pages | ISBN: 3540274200 | PDF | 8 MB
The ?fth campaign of the Cross-Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) for Eu- pean languages was held from January to September 2004. Participation in the CLEF campaigns has increased each year and CLEF 2004 was no exception: 55 groups submitted results for one or more of the di?erent tracks compared with 42 groups in the previous year. CLEF 2004 also marked a breaking point with respect to previous campaigns. The focus was no longer mainly concentrated on multilingual document retrieval as in previous years but was diversi?ed to include di?erent kinds of text retrieval across languages (e. g. , exact answers in the question-answering track) and retrieval on di?erent kinds of media (i. e. , not just plain text but collections containing image and speech as well). In ad- tion, increasing attention was given to issues that regard system usability and user satisfaction with tasks to measure the e?ectiveness of interactive systems or system components being included in both the cross-language question – swering and image retrieval tasks with the collaboration of the coordinators of the interactive track. The campaign culminated in a two-and-a-half-day workshop held in Bath, UK, 15-17 September, immediately following the 8th European Conference on Digital Libraries. The workshop was attended by nearly 100 researchers and s- tem developers.
