Judical Minimalism – For and Against Proceedings of the 9th Kobe Lectures. Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kyoto, June 2008

Free Download Judical Minimalism – For and Against: Proceedings of the 9th Kobe Lectures. Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kyoto, June 2008 By Yasutomo Morigiwa, Hirohide Takikawa (eds.)
2012 | 99 Pages | ISBN: 3515101365 | PDF | 1 MB
In his Kobe Lecture, Cass Sunstein reflects upon his judicial minimalism, a doctrine asserting that the proper role of the judiciary is to go "narrow and shallow," collectively making minimal changes to its jurisprudence. He goes "beyond judicial minimalism" by reflecting on the goal and conditions that make the minimalist strategy reasonable, culminating in the conclusion that there are situations when a different strategy is more efficient. Ten commentators carefully examine Sunstein’s legal theory, especially his arguments for and against judicial minimalism. Sunstein himself replies to the comments by appealing to the notion of fallibility. This book attempts to evaluate the pros and cons of judicial minimalism as an important strategy for legal interpretation.

Crimes Against Women

Free Download David Wingeate Pike, "Crimes Against Women "
English | ISBN: 1614708134 | 2013 | 312 pages | PDF | 12 MB
So long as women are considered inferior human beings, crimes against women will not be considered as crimes against humanity. The problem cannot be solved simply by women achieving economic freedom and education, but can only be solved by exposing, and then changing, cultural traditions, customs and religious practices that harm humanity by debasing women. When men are tortured, it is considered a crime. When women are tortured, it is dismissed as a custom, a part of the tradition. Millions of people literally believe in the propriety of throwing live women onto their husband’s funeral pyre, or mutilating female genitals, since it is accepted as tradition and has formed part of the culture. This sick mentality of the past must end. This book explores the cultural aspects of injustices against women and the general exploitation by a male-oriented society.

Robust Structural Design against Self-Excited Vibrations

Free Download Robust Structural Design against Self-Excited Vibrations By Gottfried Spelsberg-Korspeter (auth.)
2013 | 100 Pages | ISBN: 3642365515 | PDF | 3 MB
This book studies methods for a robust design of rotors against self-excited vibrations. The occurrence of self-excited vibrations in engineering applications if often unwanted and in many cases difficult to model. Thinking of complex systems such as machines with many components and mechanical contacts, it is important to have guidelines for design so that the functionality is robust against small imperfections. This book discusses the question on how to design a structure such that unwanted self-excited vibrations do not occur. It shows theoretically and practically that the old design rule to avoid multiple eigenvalues points toward the right direction and have optimized structures accordingly. This extends results for the well-known flutter problem in which equations of motion with constant coefficients occur to the case of a linear conservative system with arbitrary time periodic perturbations.
