Since then, the conference has traveled across the Asian continent and has been hosted by Taiwan (ICADL 1999), Seoul, Korea (ICADL 2000), Bangalore, India (ICADL 2001), Singapore (ICADL 2002), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (ICADL 2003), Shanghai, China (ICADL 2004), Bangkok, Thailand (ICADL 2005), and Kyoto, Japan (ICADL 2006). The 2007 edition of the conference marks an important milestone in the ICADL series. English | 2015 | ISBN: 1138852449 | EPUB | pages: 232 | 0.9 mb
To convey the image of a responsible power willing to contribute to regional stability and cooperation, China has shifted from a single-minded preference for bilateralism to an active participation in East Asian regionalism in the recent decades. This development has inspired discussions over whether a rising China could play a leadership role in building an institutionalized architecture for regional cooperation in East Asia. Nevertheless, this has not happened as East Asian regional cooperation and relevant activities remain mostly ad hoc and informal, especially when compared to regions such as Europe.

Asian Migrants and Religious Experience From Missionary Journeys to Labor Mobility

Free Download Bernardo Brown, "Asian Migrants and Religious Experience: From Missionary Journeys to Labor Mobility "
English | ISBN: 9462982325 | 2018 | 346 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Typically, scholars approach migrants’ religions as a safeguard of cultural identity, something that connects migrants to their communities of origin. This ethnographic anthology challenges that position by reframing the religious experiences of migrants as a transformative force capable of refashioning narratives of displacement into journeys of spiritual awakening and missionary calling. These essays explore migrants’ motivations in support of an argument that to travel inspires a search for new meaning in religion.

Hair Its Power and Meaning in Asian Cultures

Free Download Alf Hiltebeitel, "Hair: Its Power and Meaning in Asian Cultures"
English | ISBN: 0791437418 | | 297 pages | PDF | 38 MB
Hair-whether present or absent, restored or removed, abundant or scarce, long or short, bound or unbound, colored or natural-marks a person as clearly as speech, clothing, and smell. It defines a person’s gender, sexual availability and desirability, age, social status, and even political stance. It may also act as a basis for discrimination in treatment by others. While hair’s high salience as both sign and symbol extends cross-culturally through time, its denotations are far from universal. Hair is an interdisciplinary look at the meanings of hair, hairiness, and hairlessness in Asian cultures, from classical to contemporary contexts.

Asian Space Race Rhetoric or Reality

Free Download Asian Space Race: Rhetoric or Reality? By Ajey Lele (auth.)
2013 | 280 Pages | ISBN: 8132207327 | PDF | 3 MB
This book explores the character and contours of the Asian Space Powers. At present, Asian states like China, Japan and India are found investing in space technologies with analogous social and scientific and probably with divergent military intents. Other Asian states like Israel, South Korea and Malaysia are also making investments in the space arena. States like Iran and North Korea are faulted for using space launches as a demonstrative tool to achieve strategic objectives. This work examines this entire maze of activities to unearth where these states are making these investments to accomplish their state-specific goal or are they also trying to surpass each other by engaging in competition. Explaining why and how these states are making investments towards achieving their socio-economic and strategic mandate this book infers that the possibility of Asian Space Race exists but is presently fairly diminutive.
