Aspect-Oriented Database Systems

2004 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 3642056695 | PDF | 4 MB
Recently, a new set of software development techniques has become available, collectively termed Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD). This aims to support the modularization of systemic properties (also referred to as crosscutting concerns) and their subsequent composition with the other parts of a system. Rashid focuses on the use of Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP) techniques to modularize otherwise broadly scoped features in database systems, such as the evolution or the versioning model, to improve their customizability, extensibility and maintainability. He shows how the use of AOP can transform the way we develop, use and maintain database systems. He also discusses how database systems can support AOP by providing a means for the storage and retrieval of aspects."Aspect-Oriented Database Systems" shows the possible synergy between AOP and database systems, and is of particular interest to researchers, graduate students and software developers in database systems and applications.

2007 | 206 Pages | ISBN: 3540751610 | PDF | 7 MB
The LNCS Journal "Transactions on Aspect-Oriented Software Developmen"t is devoted to all facets of aspect-oriented software development (AOSD) techniques in the context of all phases of the software life cycle, from requirements and design to implementation, maintenance and evolution. The focus of the journal is on approaches for systematic identification, modularization, representation and composition of crosscutting concerns, i.e., the aspects and evaluation of such approaches and their impact on improving quality attributes of software systems. This volume, the third in the Transactions on Aspect-Oriented Software Development series, presents 6 revised papers together with a guest editors’ introduction. The papers, which focus on analysis, visualization, conflict identification and composition of early aspects, have passed through a careful peer reviewing process, carried out by the journal’s Editorial Board and expert referees.

Aspect in Mandarin Chinese A corpus-based study

English | 2004 | pages: 316 | ISBN: 1588116018 | PDF | 1,4 mb
Chinese, as an aspect language, has played an important role in the development of aspect theory. This book is a systematic and structured exploration of the linguistic devices that Mandarin Chinese employs to express aspectual meanings. The work presented here is the first corpus-based account of aspect in Chinese, encompassing both situation aspect and viewpoint aspect. In using corpus data, the book seeks to achieve a marriage between theory-driven and corpus-based approaches to linguistics. The corpus-based model presented explores aspect at both the semantic and grammatical levels. At the semantic level a two-level model of situation aspect is proposed, which covers both the lexical and sentential levels, thus giving a better account of the compositional nature of situation aspect. At the grammatical level four perfective and four imperfective aspects in Chinese are explored in detail. This exploration corrects many intuition-based misconceptions, and associated misleading conclusions, about aspect in Chinese common in the literature.

Modality, Aspect and Negation in Persian

Free Download Azita H. Taleghani, "Modality, Aspect and Negation in Persian"
English | 2008 | pages: 199 | ISBN: 9027255113 | PDF | 2,8 mb
This monograph presents a morpho-syntactic investigation on modality, aspect, and negation by concentrating on Persian, and is designed to contribute to theoretical linguistics and the study of Iranian languages. The analysis is based on the Minimalist program. This research challenges the idea that the syntactic structure maps on the semantic interpretation or vice versa. The discussion presented in this monograph shows that the syntactic structure of Persian modals is uniform no matter if the modals are interpreted as having root or epistemic readings. Although it is claimed that modals are raising constructions in different languages, modals in Persian, which does not have subject-raising constructions, show a different syntactic behavior. Furthermore, the structural analysis of the interaction of Persian modals and negation shows that because of the scope interaction of negation and modals, the syntactic structure of modals with respect to negation mostly corresponds to the semantic interpretation of modals.

Tense and Aspect in Romance Languages

Free Download Dalila Ayoun, "Tense and Aspect in Romance Languages"
English | 2005 | pages: 329 | ISBN: 9027241406 | PDF | 1,8 mb
This volume presents a state-of-the-art descriptive and explanatory analysis of the second language development of Romance tense-aspect systems. It contains new experimental data from adult French, Catalan, Portuguese learners, and Italian children learners. Standing research questions are addressed and pedagogical implications for foreign language classrooms are proposed arguing that there are possible commonalities in the instructional sequences of tense-aspect development in Romance languages. The first chapter presents an overview of current theoretical approaches and a summary of empirical findings. The following four chapters introduce new empirical data from a variety of theoretical perspectives (e.g., the Aspect Hypothesis, the UG/Minimalist framework). Chapter 5 proposes practical pedagogical approaches for the foreign language classroom based on empirical findings. The last chapter summarizes and discusses these findings in order to start elaborating a more comprehensive model of the development of tense-aspect marking in the Romance languages.

Perspectives on Aspect

2005 | 268 Pages | ISBN: 1402032307 | PDF | 11 MB
The aim of this book is two-fold: to offer a retrospective view on the past thirty years of research on aspectuality and temporality as well as to develop new perspectives on the future development of the field. Articles contain overviews of the development of the field and/or present the state of the art of current research, suggesting new and upcoming lines of research. An important theme throughout the book is typological variation, and the relevance of empirical data for theory formation.Together the articles in the book take a wide crosslinguistic scope including aspectual analyses of: English, and two varieties of English: African American English and Colloquial Singapore English, Italian, French, Bulgarian, Czech, Mandarin Chinese, West-Greenlandic, Wakashan languages, and Nakh-Daghestanian languages.Audience: Scholars and students of aspectuality in semantics and at the syntax-semantics interface.

Understanding the geocivilizational aspect in the West An historical look from a new approach

English | 2020 | ASIN: B08NZRN1JX | EPUB | pages: 70 | 0.1 mb
The international consensus built around the Western model and its civilizational approach, in recent decades, has not been long in showing signs of fragility in the face of structural crises induced by the push for unfair globalization. The doubts that are aroused by the not very reassuring management of this project of globalization and major global crises, such as the global Covid-19 pandemic, which has taken hold of all nations, nevertheless deserve a pause for deep reflection to better understand this unprecedented situation in human history! In this essay, I make my significant contribution in understanding the new process of human civilization, which has become a unique model for all contemporary nations, according to my "geocivilizational" approach, and offer a lucid and serene look at the historical causes of the leadership of Westerners.

The Crown Lands 1461-1536 An Aspect of Yorkist and Early Tudor Government

English | 2021 | ISBN: 1032041765, 1032042036 | EPUB | pages: 216 | 1.3 mb
Originally published in 1970, this volume examines the history of the Yorkist and early Tudor royal landed estate, conducted in the light of its role in earlier medieval history and especially in Lancastrian government. It provides material with which to understand the nature and origins of the changes that took place in the late 15th and early 16th centuries in Tudor chamber finance. Many of the documents had not been previously published when this book first appeared. The book also questions fundamental assumptions in the wider field of English constitutional history, for example, that the revenues of medieval kings of England were divided into ‘ordinary’ and ‘extra-ordinary’ and that they were expected to ‘live of their own’ on their ‘ordinary’ revenues.
