Free Download Matthias Haentjens, "Bank Recovery and Resolution: A Conference Book"
English | ISBN: 9462364087 | 2014 | 254 pages | PDF | 2 MB
European legislators have recently proposed the introduction of a completely new regime for crisis management in the banking sector. Once enacted, this legislative initiative will bring about an unprecedented harmonization of European bank insolvency law. On May 23, 2013, the Hazelhoff Center for Financial Law at Leiden Law School and the Netherlands Association for Comparative and International Insolvency Law (NACIIL) organized a conference on the highly topical theme of recovery and resolution of credit institutions and investment firms. The key question to which answers were sought at this conference was: "Which rules should govern banks in difficulties?" This book contains papers presented at the conference, covering topics such as: the requirements for a rescue or recovery plan * bail-in and the position of counter-parties * the rule of law versus authorities discretion * the treatment of cross-border groups. In addition, the book includes a keynote plenary address paper, the reports of the workshops, as well as the report of the plenary discussion.

The Bible, we are constantly reminded, is the best-selling book of all time. It is read with intense devotion by hundreds of millions of people, stands as authoritative for Judaism and Christianity, and informs and affects the politics and lives of the religious and non-religious around the world. But how well do we really know it? The Bible is so familiar, so ubiquitous that we have begun to take our knowledge of it for granted. The Bible many of us think we know is a pale imitation of the real thing.

Mathematical Book Histories

Free Download Mathematical Book Histories: Printing, Provenance, and Practices of Reading
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031326091 | 601 Pages | PDF (True) | 26 MB
This book both articulates and responds to increasing scholarly interest in the materiality of the book. Taking as its base the unique collection of mathematical books in the Russell Library at Maynooth, it addresses questions related to printing techniques and print culture, book production, provenance, and reading practices. It considers the histories of individual items of the Russell Collection, their previous locations and owners, and explores ways in which annotations, underlinings, hand-drawn diagrams, and the like reveal patterns of reading and usage. Finally, it seeks to elicit more information on a previously under-researched topic: the historical role of mathematics in the extensive network of Irish colleges that once covered Catholic Europe, located in places such as Salamanca, Rome, Douai, and Prague. Alongside delivering important new insights into print culture as a medium for transmitting scientific ideas, Mathematical Book Histories is thus also intended to contribute to a broader understanding of the role and significance of mathematics in the context of clerical instruction and more broadly in the academic tradition of Ireland up to the beginning of the twentieth century. Many of the volumes in the Russell Library reflect the remarkably rich book-trade that flourished in seventeenth and early eighteenth century Dublin and which was quite distinct from that in London. Booksellers often bought in their wares directly from abroad, with the result that publications could enter collections that did not enter the purview of contemporary English or Scottish scholars in Britain.
