Cardiac Surgery Clerkship

Free Download Cardiac Surgery Clerkship: A Guide for Senior Medical Students
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031413008 | 338 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 91 MB
This quick-reference guide is the first book written specifically for the many third- and fourth-year medical students rotating on the cardiac surgery service. The book focuses on the diagnosis and management of the most common pathologic entities. Each chapter covers history, physical examination, imaging, and common diagnoses. For each diagnosis, the book sets out the typical presentation, options for non-operative and operative management, and expected outcomes. Chapters include key illustrations, quick-reference charts, tables, diagrams, and bulleted lists. Students can read the text from cover to cover to gain a general foundation of knowledge that can be built upon when they begin their rotation, then use specific chapters to review a sub-specialty before starting a new rotation or seeing a patient with a sub-specialty attending. Topics covered include bypass, valve repair and replacement, heart and lung transplantation, congenital heart defects, aortic trauma, and much more.

Cardiac Electrosonography

Free Download Cardiac Electrosonography
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031384687 | 397 Pages | PDF (True) | 27 MB
This book focuses on a new clinical algorithmic approach to acute patient care based on the combination of electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography performance and interpretation, now renamed: ECG-sonography or electrosonography. The combination of these two basic skills improves patient management by healthcare providers in the acute setting. ECG is one of the oldest diagnostic tools in evaluating patients with cardiovascular symptoms and multiple and complex criteria for its interpretation have been developed over the past decades. The use of point of care ultrasound based on handheld echocardiography has recently emerged as an important clinical tool, particularly in the emergency department (ED) and intensive care unit. These studies are mainly performed by non-cardiologists including intensivists and ED physicians in addition to the physical exam and standard diagnostic tests such as the chest X-ray and laboratory tests to evaluate patients quickly and efficiently.

Clinical Cases in Cardiac Electrophysiology Atrial Fibrillation and Atrial Flutter Vol. 2

Free Download Clinical Cases in Cardiac Electrophysiology: Atrial Fibrillation and Atrial Flutter: Vol. 2 by Lucian Muresan
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 300 Pages | ISBN : 3031345789 | 218.7 MB
This is the second of a three-volume project aimed at providing unique case reports (20 cases per volume) of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias encountered in clinical practice. The book focuses on catheter ablation procedures of paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation of atypical atrial flutters. The cases presented were performed using the CARTO electro-anatomical mapping system, providing a high number of images to better understand arrhythmia features. The cases are built around high-quality figures acquired during the patients’ hospitalization and relevant medical images, such as electrocardiograms, Holter ECGs, and MRI/CT scans. Short videoclips with activation maps of the atria or the ventricles during the studied arrhythmia complete the information provided. The chapters include questions and answers and key messages at the end of each case, making it an invaluable tool for cardiologists, clinical cardiac electrophysiologists, and interventional cardiac electrophysiologists in training, as well as for anyone interested in learning more about the subject.

Advances in Cardiac Signal Processing

Various disciplines have been bene?ted by the advent of high-performance computing in achieving practical solutions to their problems and the area of health care is no exception to this. Signal processing and data mining tools have been developed to enhance the computational capabilities so as to help clinicians in diagnosis and treatment. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a representative signal containing inf- mation about the condition of the heart. The shape and size of the P-QRS-T wave and the time intervals between various peaks contains useful infor- tion about the nature of disease a?icting the heart. However, the human – server cannot directly monitor these subtle details. Besides, since biosignals are highly subjective, the symptoms may appear at random in the timescale. The presence of cardiac abnormalities are generally re?ected in the shape of ECG waveform and heart rate. However, by the very nature of biosignals, this re?ection would be random in the timescale. That is, the diseases may not show up all the time, but would manifest at certain irregular (random) intervals during the day. Therefore the study of ECG pattern and heart rate variability has to be carried out over extended periods of time (i. e. , for 24 hours). Naturally the volume of the data to be handled is enormous and its study is tedious and time consuming. As a consequence, the possibility of the analyst missing (or misreading) vital information is high.
