Navigating Term Limits The Careers of State Legislators

Free Download Jordan Butcher, "Navigating Term Limits: The Careers of State Legislators"
English | ISBN: 3031394224 | 2023 | 279 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book considers whether term limits help curb careerism in the US state legislatures. Term limits are popular among the public and have been overwhelmingly successful once on the ballot. Despite this, very little is known about the long-term effects of these institutional rules. If term limits were sold to the public to remove entrenched incumbents from office, how do they alter the careers of legislators and what are the implications? Butcher suggests that term limits do not end careers but instead, lawmakers have become more creative in their pursuits. She finds that the presence of term limits has created a new career system unique to those states that have limits. In each chapter, there is a quantitative analysis, followed by qualitative interviews to better understand the underlying motivations of members.

Careers of University Graduates Views and Experiences in Comparative Perspectives

Free Download Ulrich Teichler, "Careers of University Graduates: Views and Experiences in Comparative Perspectives"
English | 2007 | pages: 278 | ISBN: 9048174775, 1402059256 | PDF | 1,8 mb
Graduates from institutions of Higher Education do not only hope to get employed and be better paid. Study can also have an impact on employment and work in many respects: facilitating transition to employment, opening up opportunities for demanding, interesting and responsible professional assignments, increasing remuneration and job security, providing opportunities for continuing learning and leading the way to international mobility and visibly international assignments. The book provides a series of detailed analyses of graduate employment and work in comparative perspective. It draws from the survey of graduates from 11 European countries and Japan first published in H. Schomburg und U. Teichler "Higher Education and Graduate Employment and Work" (Dordrecht: Springer 2006). In this volume, scholars from twelve countries show how transition to employment, job assignments, employment assessments of the quality of employment and work vary by the graduates’ socio-biographic and educational background. It also focuses on experiences during the course of study and competences acquired, international experience, regional background and regions of employment. It demonstrates more substantial differences of the relationships between study and subsequent employment between various countries than previous debates and analyses have suggested.

Careers and Talent Management A Critical Perspective

Free Download Cristina Reis, "Careers and Talent Management: A Critical Perspective "
English | ISBN: 0415735025 | 2015 | 98 pages | PDF | 1311 KB
Careers and Talent Management challenges and deconstructs the notion of the "perfect career" in order to provide new perspectives on talent management and career creation. It argues that the skills that organizations typically look for as indicative of superstar performance are not necessarily those that lead to competitive advantage. Attracting and retaining talent is both challenging and complex for organizations, since it is not known, especially at the top level, which employee skills will be most valuable in helping the organization be competitive globally.
