Fever is one of the most common presenting complaints in Pediatric practice. It can be a cause of concern to parents and the treating Pediatrician. This book describes a practical, case-based approach to diagnosing the cause of fever. The presentation simulates everyday challenges in the outpatient clinic and in-patient ward rounds, taking the learner systematically through the process of targeted history and focused clinical examination, which should result in making a provisional clinical diagnosis. A discussion on possible differentials, rational use of investigations, interpretation of lab reports, and treatment follows this. One of the unique features of this book is the initial note on parental counseling in challenging situations.

Decision Making A case study of the decision to raise the Bank Rate in September 1957

English | 2011 | ISBN: 0415508177 | EPUB | pages: 128 | 0.2 mb
Originally published in 1968, Richard Chapman’s pioneering work illuminates the process of decision making by analysis of a particular example: the decision to raise the Bank Rate in September, 1957. The legal responsibility for a decision may be easy to pinpoint; in this case the Court of Directors of the Bank of England bear this but six weeks of negotiation separate their formal statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s advice to the Treasury to consider effecting ‘a measure of deflation in the economy’. These six weeks of consultation between the Bank and the Treasury proceeding in ‘the pattern of a formal dance’ are analysed and a necessary by-product of this case-study is a closer understanding of how the Treasury and the Bank of England work together. These details are derived mainly from the evidence, and deductions from it, presented to the Bank Rate Tribunal and the Radcliffe Committee on the Working of the Monetary System.

Free Download Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Surgery Case Atlas: Pediatric Deformity
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031773586 | 1008 Pages | PDF (True) | 188 MB
Consisting of case studies contributed by both domestic and international leaders in the field, this second edition of Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction: A Case-Based Atlas remains an invaluable resource for all orthopedic surgeons and researchers and practitioners of limb lengthening, deformity correction and the Ilizarov method. Comprehensive yet accessible, it is sensibly divided into dedicated sections on pediatrics, foot and ankle, trauma and post-traumatic reconstruction, adult deformity, tumor and upper extremity interventions. Each of the more than 450 unique cases includes color photographs and radiographs from before, during and after surgery, and follow a consistent chapter structure that outlines a brief clinical history of the case, preoperative problem list, treatment strategy, basic principles, technical pearls and how to avoid and manage complications and subsequent problems. Suggested readings round out each case. A comprehensive presentation of techniques is featured, including external fixation, internal fixation, combination approaches, fully implantable limb lengthening nails, various techniques of bone transport for skeletal defects, and osseointegration limb replacement surgery. This case-based approach is a time-tested, efficient and thorough way to learn this exciting new frontier in orthopedic surgery.

Formal Development of Reactive Systems Case Study Production Cell

Free Download Formal Development of Reactive Systems: Case Study Production Cell By Claus Lewerentz, Thomas Lindner (auth.), Claus Lewerentz, Thomas Lindner (eds.)
1995 | 400 Pages | ISBN: 3540588671 | PDF | 8 MB
This book is based upon work done under the project "Correct Software through Formal Methods" supported by the German Ministry of Research and Technology. As a case-study report on the practice of formal software development, this book systematically presents and compares 18 different approaches to the control of a real-world production cell. Mathematically precise, formal methods play an increasingly important role in software development, particularly in areas where failure of software would result in injury to people or, at best, significant loss of money. By analyzing the benefits and explaining the use and limitations of formal methods on a sample basis, this book provides a roadmap for the selection and application of appropriate approaches and thus helps in putting formal methods into industrial use.

Show your students how amazing it can be to just " see what will happen" when they blend biology, engineering, and serendipity. Focusing on innovations sparked by accidental or unexpected observations, the case studies in this resource are a lively way to integrate engineering and experimentation into your biology classes. Middle and high school students will learn fundamental science processes while using their natural curiosity to explore ideas for new applications and products. They’ ll also find out that small, plant-eating mammals called pikas helped scientists find new ways to survive extreme weather events and that algae can be used as airplane fuel.
