Cancer and Stem Cells

English | ISBN: 1604564784 | 2008 | 220 pages | PDF | 8 MB
Today, cancer is the second most prevalent cause of death, after heart disease, in the industrialised world. Till now, and despite promising results in cancer research, the primary cause of death in cancer is still 1: the formation of metastases at distant organs sites, 2: the presence of cancer cells that are resistant to current cancer therapies (chemotherapy/radiation) and which cause cancer relapse. Within the past three years it became evident that also solid tumour tissues contain a kind of stem cells, so called cancer cells. These cancer stem cells have been described as chemo-radiation therapy resistant tumour initiating cells. The purpose of this book is to summarise the latest findings about the role of stem cells in cancer.

Cancer Stem Cells and Cancer Therapy

English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031748417 | 390 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 28 MB
This book explores the importance of cancer stem cells and their usage. Cancer is a serious health issue that affects people all over the world. Numerous studies back up the theory that stem cells play a role in cancer development. The population of cancer stem cells (CSCs) exhibits tumorigenic potential and possesses stem cell-specific markers and characteristics, such as self-renewal/proliferation and differentiation. Carcinogenesis may be significantly influenced by CSCs. Currently, treatment techniques concentrate on eliminating the CSC subpopulation using various methods, such as bypassing CSC resistance mechanisms or focussing on important biochemical pathways that govern these cells. New approaches are still required even though the negative effects of current treatment approaches are minimal.

Fuel Cells From Birth to Maturity (Synthesis Lectures on Engineering, Science, and Technology)

Free Download Fuel Cells: From Birth to Maturity (Synthesis Lectures on Engineering, Science, and Technology) by Ulf Bossel
English | April 18, 2024 | ISBN: 3031445384 | 152 pages | MOBI | 15 Mb
The book presents the scientific history of the early days of fuel cells (1838 to 1845). The fuel cell effect was discovered by the Swiss scientist Christian Friedrich Schoenbein. while the English lawyer and scientist William Robert Grove perfected the idea into a working power source. But around 1870 Siemens invented the power generator and electricity was produced by rotating shafts of water wheels, engines and turbines. The book presents for the first time the complete communication between C. F. Schoenbein and R. W. Grove (1838 to 1868). Also, the original analysis based on the physical understanding of 1850 has also been revised and corrected. The updated fuel cell analysis leads to full agreement between theory and experiment.
