Water in Times of Climate Change A Values-driven Dialogue

Free Download Jan Jorrit Hasselaar, "Water in Times of Climate Change: A Values-driven Dialogue"
English | ISBN: 9463722270 | 2021 | 150 pages | PDF | 7 MB
This book on water and climate change goes beyond the usual and predictable analyses, by bringing religion and values into a discussion that is often dominated by technocratic solutions. The three case studies of Jakarta, Cape Town, and Amsterdam demonstrate the challenges of water management in urban areas and the role religion can play in addressing them. With representatives from science, politics, economics, and religion, as well as young voices, the book stimulates a values-driven dialogue on issues of water in times of climate change.

Heart Disease and Climate Change

This Open Access book describes how the aging populations of high-income countries and younger, more vulnerable populations living in low-to-middle income countries are increasingly affected by cardiac events (including hospitalisation and premature mortality) that do not occur randomly. Instead, they rise and fall in response to climatic conditions. This relationship represents a complex bio-behavioral interaction between individuals at risk of experiencing an acute cardiovascular event and their environment.

Boreal Forests in the Face of Climate Change Sustainable Management

Free Download Boreal Forests in the Face of Climate Change: Sustainable Management by Miguel Montoro Girona, Hubert Morin, Sylvie Gauthier, Yves Bergeron
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 859 Pages | ISBN : 303115987X | 113.9 MB
This book explores a new conceptual framework for the sustainable management of the boreal forest in the face of climate change. The boreal forest is the second-largest terrestrial biome on Earth and covers a 14 million km2 belt, representing about 25% of the Earth’s forest area. Two-thirds of this forest biome is managed and supplies 37% of global wood production. These forests also provide a range of natural resources and ecosystem services essential to humanity. However, climate change is altering species distributions, natural disturbance regimes, and forest ecosystem structure and functioning. Although sustainable management is the main goal across the boreal biome, a novel framework is required to adapt forest strategies and practices to climate change.

Mathematics of Climate Modeling

Free Download Mathematics of Climate Modeling By Valentin P. Dymnikov, Aleksander N. Filatov (auth.)
1996 | 264 Pages | ISBN: 1461286743 | PDF | 6 MB
The present monograph is dedicated to a new branch of the theory of climate, which is titled by the authors, "Mathematical Theory of Climate. " The foundation of this branch is the investigation of climate models by the methods of the qUalitative theory of differential equa tions. In the Russian edition the book was named "Fundamentals of the Mathematical Theory of Climate. " Respecting the recommenda tions of Wayne Yuhasz (we are truly grateful to him for this advice), we named the English edition of the book "Mathematics of Climate Modelling. " This title appears to be more appropriate, since the con structive results of the theory are at present preliminary and have not been fully tested with experiments in climate modelling. This branch of science is yet developing and its practical results will be obtained only in the near future. Nevertheless, we want to keep the terminology which we have used in the introduction to the Russian edition of the book, since the authors hope that this term will be accepted by the scientific community for identification of a given branch of climate theory. On preparing the English edition, new ideas were established con necting some significant new research results obtained by the author. We are deeply grateful to G. Marchuk for continual encourage ment of this scientific enterprise and fruitful discussions, to our young colleagues A. Gorelov, E. Kazantsev, A. Gritsun, and A.

In Quest of a Shared Planet Negotiating Climate from the Global South

Free Download Naveeda Khan, "In Quest of a Shared Planet: Negotiating Climate from the Global South"
English | ISBN: 1531502784 | 2023 | 240 pages | AZW3 | 633 KB
Based on the author’s eight years of fieldwork with the United Nations-led Conference of Parties (COP), In Quest of a Shared Planet offers an illuminating first-person ethnographic perspective on climate change negotiations. Focusing on the Paris Agreement, anthropologist Naveeda Khan introduces readers to the only existing global approach to the problem of climate change, one that took nearly thirty years to be collectively agreed upon. She shares her detailed descriptions of COP21 to COP25 and growing understanding of the intricacies of the climate negotiation process, leading her to ask why countries of the Global South invested in this slow-moving process and to explore how they have maneuvered it.
