Strategies in Evaluation of Complex Health Care Interventions for People with Physical or Mental Health Issues

English | ISBN: 1606921762 | 2009 | 162 pages | PDF | 6 MB
Strategies in the evaluation of psychosocial health care interventions for people with physical and/or mental health problems are useful and important to practitioners and researchers. However, there is limited evidence in health care journals and information in books about this important topic. The purposes of this edited book are two-fold. First, the book will highlight and discuss a variety of methods used in evaluation research, which are mainly categorised as process and outcome-based evaluation. Second, it will disseminate up-to-date research evidence on a variety of psychotherapeutic, educational and supportive models of psychosocial interventions for people with physical or mental health problems, including those with cancer, heart failure and cardiovascular diseases, schizophrenia, dementia, first-time pregnancy, and paediatric surgery, as well as for their family caregivers. Most of research studies included in this book were randomised controlled trials (RCTs) with repeated measures design. However, a few are focused on not only health outcomes but also the process of the intervention or study. Interestingly, the study populations in these research reports consisted of people in different stages of life-span development, ranging from young children undergoing surgery (Chapter 2), adolescents and adults with schizophrenia (Chapter 4), women with first-time pregnancy (Chapter 5), to older people with dementia (Chapter 7), as well as their adult family members and parents. Discussion and evaluation of strategies for multi-component psychosocial interventions are limited. This edited book, which reports research using different study methods and designs of approaches to psychosocial interventions for different groups of people with physical and/or mental health problems, and also for their family caregivers, offers highly useful empirical evidence, or can be used as a reference guide, for health care practitioners and researchers.

This book compiles the groundbreaking research conducted by the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 871, centered around the "Regeneration of Complex Capital Goods." This comprehensive work unveils an array of innovative methods developed through CRC 871, designed to revitalize and enhance the functional attributes of these critical assets. From non-destructive characterization of heavily stressed turbine components to the dynamic behavior of regenerated structural elements, each chapter offers a meticulous exploration of diverse facets in the field. The book also addresses the crucial consideration of variability in repair processes and material properties, as well as the comprehensive control of regeneration processes. With insights into simulation-based process design, fast measurement techniques, and resilience-based decision criteria, this volume provides a comprehensive view of the cutting-edge approaches employed. Moreover, readers will find a detailed process chain for condition-based regeneration, offering a practical framework for implementation. Finally, the book sheds light on the importance of targeted public relations in disseminating the invaluable research carried out by Collaborative Research Center 871. This extensive compilation not only showcases the scientific rigor behind maintaining complex capital goods but also demonstrates the collaborative efforts that brought together experts from various fields to push the boundaries of regeneration technology.

Realizing Complex System Design Management

Free Download Realizing Complex System Design: Management
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1032036532 | 506 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 46 MB
The creation of complex integrated systems is, in itself, complex. It requires immense planning and a large team of people with diverse backgrounds based in dispersed geographical locations (and countries) supposedly working to a coordinated schedule and cost. The systems engineering task is not new, but recent scales most definitely are. The world is now capable of designing and manufacturing systems whose complexity was not considered possible 10 years ago. While many are trained to think in terms of a complete system, where ‘everything’ is designed and produced by a single project team, today such systems involve integrating subsystems and components (which are also complex) that have been developed by other project teams. Inevitably, this introduces additional complexities, involving elements out of the direct control of the project, but which are essential to its overall success.

Nonlinear Dynamics in Complex Systems Theory and Applications for the Life-, Neuro- and Natural Sciences

Free Download Nonlinear Dynamics in Complex Systems: Theory and Applications for the Life-, Neuro- and Natural Sciences By Armin Fuchs (auth.)
2013 | 238 Pages | ISBN: 3642335519 | PDF | 11 MB
With many areas of science reaching across their boundaries and becoming more and more interdisciplinary, students and researchers in these fields are confronted with techniques and tools not covered by their particular education. Especially in the life- and neurosciences quantitative models based on nonlinear dynamics and complex systems are becoming as frequently implemented as traditional statistical analysis. Unfamiliarity with the terminology and rigorous mathematics may discourage many scientists to adopt these methods for their own work, even though such reluctance in most cases is not justified. This book bridges this gap by introducing the procedures and methods used for analyzing nonlinear dynamical systems. In Part I, the concepts of fixed points, phase space, stability and transitions, among others, are discussed in great detail and implemented on the basis of example elementary systems. Part II is devoted to specific, non-trivial applications: coordination of human limb movement (Haken-Kelso-Bunz model), self-organization and pattern formation in complex systems (Synergetics), and models of dynamical properties of neurons (Hodgkin-Huxley, Fitzhugh-Nagumo and Hindmarsh-Rose). Part III may serve as a refresher and companion of some mathematical basics that have been forgotten or were not covered in basic math courses. Finally, the appendix contains an explicit derivation and basic numerical methods together with some programming examples as well as solutions to the exercises provided at the end of certain chapters. Throughout this book all derivations are as detailed and explicit as possible, and everybody with some knowledge of calculus should be able to extract meaningful guidance follow and apply the methods of nonlinear dynamics to their own work."This book is a masterful treatment, one might even say a gift, to the interdisciplinary scientist of the future.""With the authoritative voice of a genuine practitioner, Fuchs is a master teacher of how to handle complex dynamical systems.""What I find beautiful in this book is its clarity, the clear definition of terms, every step explained simply and systematically."(J.A.Scott Kelso, excerpts from the foreword)
