This book introduces and assembles essential knowledge on compression bandages, addressing a gap in the available literature on this subject. It covers the various concepts of compression therapy―from basic principles to practical applications. The subject matter in this book introduces compression therapy fundamentals, covering chronic venous diseases, clinical recommendations, and application guidelines. It also discusses bandage structure, types, pressure dynamics, and material effects on long-term compression. Dynamic compression assessment, long-term compression performance, and prediction and modelling of the compression profile of the bandage over time are also detailed along with other important concepts.

High-Pressure Shock Compression of Solids II Dynamic Fracture and Fragmentation

This volume concerns the fracture and fragmentation of solid materials that occurs when they are subjected to extremes of stress applied at the highest possible rates. The plan for the volume is to address experimental, theoretical, and com putational aspects of high-rate dynamic fracture and fragmentation, with emphasis on recent work. We begin with several chapters in which the emphasis falls on experimental methods and observations. These chapters address both macroscopic responses and the microscopic cause of these re sponses. This is followed by several chapters emphasizing modeling-the physical explanation and mathematical representation of the observations. Some of the models are deterministic, while others focus on the stochastic aspects of the observations. Often, the ov\!rall objective of investigation of dynamic fracture and fragmentation phenomena is provision of a means for predicting the entire course of an event that begins with a stimulus such as an impact and proceeds through a complicated deformation and fracture pro cess that results in disintegration of the body and formation of a rapidly expanding cloud of debris fragments. Analysis of this event usually involves development of a continuum theory and computer code that captures the experimental observations by incorporating models of the important pheno mena into a comprehensive description of the deformation and fracture pro cess. It is to this task that the work of the last few chapters is devoted.

Data Compression The Complete Reference, Second Edition

Free Download Data Compression: The Complete Reference, Second Edition by David Salomon
English | PDF | 2000 | 832 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 83.2 MB
viii * The second new chapter, Chapter 6, discusses video compression. The chapter opens with a general description of CRT operation and basic analog and digital video concepts. It continues with a general discussion of video compression, and it concludes with a description of MPEG-1 and H.261. * Audio compression is the topic of the third new chapter, Chapter 7. The first topic in this chapter is the properties of the human audible system and how they can be exploited to achieve lossy audio compression. A discussion of a few simple audio compression methods follows, and the chapter concludes with a description of the three audio layers of MPEG-1, including the very popular mp3 format. Other new material consists of the following: * Conditional image RLE (Section 1.4.2). * Scalar quantization (Section 1.6). * The QM coder used in JPEG, JPEG 2000, and JBIG is now included in Sec tion 2.16. * Context-tree weighting is discussed in Section 2.19. Its extension to lossless image compression is the topic of Section 4.24. * Section 3.4 discusses a sliding buffer method called repetition times. * The troublesome issue of patents is now also included (Section 3.25). * The relatively unknown Gray codes are discussed in Section 4.2.1, in connection with image compression. * Section 4.3 discusses intuitive methods for image compression, such as subs- pling and vector quantization.

Lorenz Georg Görne presents a method (PrOComp) for optimal usage of the transmission path between the vehicle and the data backend. The compression ratio of vehicle measurement data could be improved from roughly a factor of ten in conventional methods, to up to 27. The method allows vehicle measurement data to be transmitted optimally in terms of data volume via the mobile internet and via traditional transmission routes.
