The Fourth International Conference on Unconventional Computation, UC 2005, organized under the auspices of EATCS by the Centre for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science and the Department of C- puter Science and Arti?cial Intelligence of the University of Seville, was held in Seville, October 3-7, 2005. Seville, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, is at its best in October. An explosion of colour and contrast: ?amenco, bull?ghting, and a lively at- sphere in the streets due to the open and friendly nature of its people. The river Guadalquivir, the Cathedral and the Golden Tower are all places full of magic where the visitor can feel the spirit of a city which is eternally romantic. The series of International Conferences Unconventional Computation (UC),https://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/CDMTCS/conferences/uc/isdevoted to all aspects of unconventional computation, theory as well as experiments and applications. Typical, but not exclusive, topics are: natural computing including quantum, cellular, molecular, neural and evolutionarycomputing; chaosand – namical systems based computing; and various proposals for computations that go beyond the Turing model. The ?rst venue of the Unconventional Computation Conference (formerly called Unconventional Models of Computation) was Auckland, New Zealand in 1998; subsequent sites of the conference were Brussels, Belgium in 2000 and Kobe, Japan in 2002. The titles of the proceedings volumes from past UC Conferences are as follows: 1. C.S. Calude, J. Casti, M.J. Dinneen (eds.). Persuasive technology is the general class of technology that has the explicit purpose of changing human attitudes and behaviours. Persuasive technologies apply principles of social psychology in influencing people; principles of credibility, trust, reciprocity, authority and the like. Social psychologists have spent a great deal of effort over many years in trying to understand how attitude and behaviour change comes about, focusing on the effectiveness of human persuaders, and the persuasive power of messages delivered through non-interactive mass-media, such as newspapers or television. Harnessing the persuasive power of current interactive media, persuasive technology was recently identified as a separate research field, as evidenced by B.J. 1 Fogg’s first discussion of the domain. Fogg characterises computers designed to 2 persuade as the 5th major wave in computing . The scope of technologies that hold persuasive potential is broader than ICT alone, and includes persuasive product design and architectural design, yet the interactive nature of computers uniquely enables user-sensitive and user-adaptive responding, allowing persuasive messages to be tailored to the specific user in question, presented at the right place and at the right time, thereby heightening their likely persuasive impact.

Persuasive technology is the general class of technologies that purposefully apply psychological principles of persuasion – principles of credibility, trust, reciprocity, authority and the like – in interactive media, in the service of changing their users’ attitudes and behavior. Only one year ago, in 2006, the first international conference in this area, PERSUASIVE 2006 was hosted in Eindhoven. The conference was entirely geared towards communicating the progress made in the area of persuasive technology, and towards presenting recent results in theory, design, technology and evaluation. It brought together a wide range of research fields, including social psychology, HCI, computer science, industrial design, engineering, game design, communication science, and human factors, and the formula worked: plans for a follow-up were made immediately upon its conclusion. PERSUASIVE 2007, the second international conference on persuasive technology, was hosted by Stanford University, April 26-27. The program featured a large number of presentations, both oral and in poster format, on new findings, new conceptualizations and designs, and new reflections on persuasion through technology. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, this conference featured the best new insights into how video games, mobile phone applications, and Web sites can be designed to motivate and influence people.

The 10th Information Security Conference (ISC 2007) was held in Valpara´ ?so, Chile, October 9-12, 2007. ISC is an annual international conference covering research in theory and applications of information security, aiming to attract high quality papers in all of its technical aspects. ISC was ?rst initiated as a workshop (ISW) in Japan in 1997, ISW 1999 was held in Malaysia and ISW 2000 in Australia. The name was changed to the current one when the conf- ence was held in Spain in 2001 (ISC 2001). The latest conferences were held in Brazil (ISC 2002), the UK (ISC 2003), the USA (ISC 2004), Singapore (ISC 2005),and Greece (ISC 2006). This year the event wassponsored by the Univ- sidad T´ ecnica Federico Santa Mar´ ?a (Valpara´ ?so, Chile), the Support Center for AdvancedTelecommunicationsTechnologyResearch,Foundation,SCAT(Tokyo, Japan), Microsoft Corporation, and Yahoo! Research. Re?ectingtheconference’sbroadscope, thisyear’smainProgramCommittee consisted of a relatively large number (49) of experts. Additionally, given the timely topic of cryptanalysis and design of hash functions and the NIST hash competition, the conference also featured a special Hash Subcommittee, chaired by Arjen Lenstra (EPFL and Bell Labs), as well as a panel on hashing, chaired by Bill Burr (NIST). The conference received 116 submissions, 29 of which were selected by the committee members for presentation at the conference, based on quality, originality and relevance. Each paper was anonymously reviewed by at least three committee members.

2007 | 994 Pages | ISBN: 3540730397 | PDF | 46 MB
The present volume contains the proceedings of the Scandinavian Conference on Image Analysis, SCIA 2007, held at Hotel Hvide Hus, Aalborg, Denmark, June 10-14, 2007. Initiated in 1979 by Torleiv Orhaug in Sweden, SCIA 2007 represented the 15th in the biennial series of conferences. It is arranged in turn by the Scandi- vian countries of Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Norway, making it a regional conference. However, judging by the nationalities of contributing authors and participants, it is also an international conference. Worldwide, there is no lack of conferences on image analysis. Indeed, hardly a day passes without an announcement of yet another conference. Therefore the pattern recognition societies of the Scandinavian countries take particular pride in being able to continue the SCIA tradition. SCIA has indeed matured over the many years it has been in existence, but in our opinion SCIA has maintained ?- ibility and has been able to adopt and incorporate necessary changes and adju- ments over that time span. An important key to the success of SCIA is the constant and continuing high quality of the scienti?c content. Furthermore, the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the conference itself is well known within the community. The objective to keep in mind must be to continue along those lines.

EGOV 2007 was the sixth edition of this highly successful series of annual int- national conferences dedicated to electronic government research and practice. Like all its predecessors, EGOV 2007 achieved a remarkable number of paper submissions. Moreover, the quality of this year’s submissions again superseded previous years’ submissions. For the third year in a row, the conference was anteceded by a doctoral colloquium, with approximately 20 PhD projects d- cussed. The conference also provided a forum for academic work in progress, for practitioner reports, and for workshops on specialty topics. Along with the International Conference on Digital Government Research (dg.o)intheUSA andthe e-GovernmentTrackatthe HawaiiInternationalC- ference on System Sciences (HICSS), the EGOV series of conferences has est- lished itself as the leading annual conference on e-Government, e-Participation and e-Governance in Europe, with a global reach. Last year, the ?rst two professional societies were formed in North America 1 and Europe, the Digital Government Society of North America (DGSNA) and 2 the European EGOV Society (EGOV-S) . Both sister societies work closely – gether.Itisnoteworthythatbothsocietieshaveadoptedalmostidenticalmission statements. They both de?ne themselves as multi-disciplinary organizations "of scholars and practitioners engaged in and committed to democratic digital g- ernment. Digital (or electronic) government fosters the use of information and technology to support and improve public policies and government operations, engage citizens, and provide comprehensive and timely government services".
