Between Resistance and Conformity

Free Download Shailendra Kumar Singh, "Between Resistance and Conformity"
English | ISBN: 1032859199 | 2024 | 208 pages | PDF | 3 MB
This book examines the questions of conformity and resistance with respect to Premchand’s literary corpus. Mapping the various complexities, challenges, and contradictions of interwar India, it demonstrates how the passive peasant protagonists of the writer’s fictional works present a diametrically opposed definition of dharma as compared to their dissident nationalist counterparts. Through a relatively similar logic of comparative assessment, it further foregrounds the fundamental asymmetry that exists between Premchand’s literary representations of women as compliant domestic subjects and those that portray them as rebel patriots of colonial North India. Juxtaposing several genres, including novels, short stories, letters, and journalistic writings to offer a reconsideration of Premchand’s work, this book will interest scholars of peasant narratives, nationalist fiction, and gender studies.

Bystander Society Conformity and Complicity in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust

Free Download Bystander Society: Conformity and Complicity in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust by Mary Fulbrook
English | November 1, 2023 | ISBN: 0197691714 | True EPUB | 488 pages | 26.5 MB

The question often asked of the Nazi era-what and when did ordinary Germans know about the crimes being committed in their name?-is, Fulbrook argues, the wrong one. The real question is how they interpreted and acted-or failed to act-upon what they knew; and how, in the process, became complicit.

English | 2006 | pages: 235 | ISBN: 1845452097, 184545359X | PDF | 2,3 mb
Culture and the arts played a central role in the ideology and propaganda of National Socialism from the early years of the movement until the last months of the Third Reich in 1945. Hitler and his followers believed that art and culture were expressions of race, and that "Aryans" alone were capable of creating true art and preserving true German culture. This volume’s essays explore these and other aspects of the arts and cultural life under National Socialism, and are authored by some of the most respected authorities in the field: Alan Steinweis, Michael Kater, Eric Rentschler, Pamela Potter, Frank Trommler, and Jonathan Petropoulos. The result is a volume that offers students and interested readers a brief but focused introduction to this important aspect of the history of Nazi Germany.
