In the fall of 2004, an all-out siege was waged on a heavily fortified city, producing the most intense urban combat since the Battle of Hue City in Vietnam. The tempo and intensity of the fighting provided the ultimate proving ground for leadership theory and practical application. A lifetime of leadership lessons was learned and tested in the most demanding environment possible.

Recent Advances in Contact Mechanics Papers Collected at the 5th Contact Mechanics International Symposium (CMIS2009), April 2

Free Download Recent Advances in Contact Mechanics: Papers Collected at the 5th Contact Mechanics International Symposium (CMIS2009), April 28-30, 2009, Chania, Greece By Jim R. Barber, Young Ju Ahn (auth.), Georgios E. Stavroulakis (eds.)
2013 | 422 Pages | ISBN: 3642339670 | PDF | 19 MB
Contact mechanics is an active research area with deep theoretical and numerical roots. The links between nonsmooth analysis and optimization with mechanics have been investigated intensively during the last decades, especially in Europe. The study of complementarity problems, variational -, quasivariational- and hemivariational inequalities arising in contact mechanics and beyond is a hot topic for interdisciplinary research and cooperation. The needs of industry for robust solution algorithms suitable for large scale applications and the regular updates of the respective elements in major commercial computational mechanics codes, demonstrate that this interaction is not restricted to the academic environment. The contributions of this book have been selected from the participants of the CMIS 2009 international conference which took place in Crete and continued a successful series of specialized contact mechanics conferences.

Joint Venture Contact Secrets

Joint ventures are like mini-partnerships when 2 or more individuals or businesses collaborate on a specific project, by pooling resources, talents, time and energy. Ultimately, both partners work together in some capacity for mutual benefit. They agree to share the rewards, as well as any risks. Unlike a business partnership, joint ventures are short term collaborative projects.

Bodies in Contact Rethinking Colonial Encounters in World History

Free Download Adele Perry, Carter Findley, Elisa Camiscioli, "Bodies in Contact: Rethinking Colonial Encounters in World History"
English | 2005 | pages: 460 | ISBN: 0822334550 | PDF | 2,0 mb
From portrayals of African women’s bodies in early modern European travel accounts to the relation between celibacy and Indian nationalism to the fate of the Korean "comfort women" forced into prostitution by the occupying Japanese army during the Second World War, the essays collected in Bodies in Contact demonstrate how a focus on the body as a site of cultural encounter provides essential insights into world history. Together these essays reveal the "body as contact zone" as a powerful analytic rubric for interpreting the mechanisms and legacies of colonialism and illuminating how attention to gender alters understandings of world history. Rather than privileging the operations of the Foreign Office or gentlemanly capitalists, these historical studies render the home, the street, the school, the club, and the marketplace visible as sites of imperial ideologies.

Computational Contact Mechanics Geometrically Exact Theory for Arbitrary Shaped Bodies

Free Download Computational Contact Mechanics: Geometrically Exact Theory for Arbitrary Shaped Bodies By Alexander Konyukhov, Karl Schweizerhof (auth.)
2013 | 446 Pages | ISBN: 3642315305 | PDF | 16 MB
This book contains a systematical analysis of geometrical situations leading to contact pairs — point-to-surface, surface-to-surface, point-to-curve, curve-to-curve and curve-to-surface. Each contact pair is inherited with a special coordinate system based on its geometrical properties such as a Gaussian surface coordinate system or a Serret-Frenet curve coordinate system. The formulation in a covariant form allows in a straightforward fashion to consider various constitutive relations for a certain pair such as anisotropy for both frictional and structural parts. Then standard methods well known in computational contact mechanics such as penalty, Lagrange multiplier methods, combination of both and others are formulated in these coordinate systems. Such formulations require then the powerful apparatus of differential geometry of surfaces and curves as well as of convex analysis. The final goals of such transformations are then ready-for-implementation numerical algorithms within the finite element method including any arbitrary discretization techniques such as high order and isogeometric finite elements, which are most convenient for the considered geometrical situation. The book proposes a consistent study of geometry and kinematics, variational formulations, constitutive relations for surfaces and discretization techniques for all considered geometrical pairs and contains the associated numerical analysis as well as some new analytical results in contact mechanics.
