W. G. Sebald in Context

Free Download Uwe Schütte, "W. G. Sebald in Context "
English | ISBN: 1316511359 | 2023 | 346 pages | PDF | 8 MB
The German academic and writer W. G. Sebald made an astounding ascent into the canon of world literature. In this volume, leading experts from both the English- and the German-speaking worlds explore his celebrated prose works published in the short span from 1996 to his premature death in 2001. Special attention is paid to Sebald’s unpublished texts and books awaiting translation into English. The volume – illustrated with many unpublished archive images – scrutinizes the dual nature of Sebald’s life and work, located between Germany and England, academic and literary writing, vilification and idolization. Through nearly forty essays on a broad range of topics, W. G. Sebald in Context achieves a revision of our understanding of Sebald, defying many clichés about him. Particular attention is paid to the manifold ways in which Sebald’s writings exerted a legacy far beyond literature, especially in the areas of art, cinema, and popular music.

Traveller Vulnerability in the Context of Travel and Tourism Contracts A Comparison of Brazilian and EU Law

Free Download Traveller Vulnerability in the Context of Travel and Tourism Contracts: A Comparison of Brazilian and EU Law by Maria Goretti Sanches Lima
English | EPUB (True) | 2018 | 240 Pages | ISBN : 331998375X | 2.8 MB
The book highlights the link between consumers and travellers, identifying the meaning of vulnerability in Brazil and the EU. It also covers different types of contracts for tourism and travel services, including online booking processes. Only after 2015, as a result of the directive on package travel and linked travel arrangements, did the EU begin viewing travellers as consumers in the sense of Union Consumer Law; conversely, in Brazil, the traveller has no legal status whatsoever and is considered solely a consumer. As the traveller is implicitly a consumer he/she is subject to vulnerability. However, the definition of vulnerability differs considerably between Brazil and the EU: while in Brazil it is a principle stemming from the Consumer Defence Code, covering all consumers, in the EU vulnerability is not an established principle. In the EU, although the average consumer is assumed to be reasonably well informed, observant and circumspect, they are also recognised as the weaker party in the contract. That recognition does not fit with the notion of "confident consumer". Vulnerable consumers in the EU are those whose individual characteristics, such as their age, physical or mental infirmity, or credulity, make them particularly susceptible to unfair commercial practices. Conversely, in Brazil these consumers are seen as being hyper-vulnerable, rather than solely vulnerable. In this context, travellers are in a weaker position than regular consumers buying goods or services, because they are outside of their domicile or jurisdiction for a brief or extended period of time.

The Context of Logocentrism in Derrida’s Thought

Free Download Roland Theuas DS. Pada, "The Context of Logocentrism in Derrida’s Thought"
English | ISBN: 152752504X | 2023 | 110 pages | PDF | 731 KB
This collection of essays explores Derrida’s critique of logocentrism, from the problem of prioritising speech over writing to the fundamental assumptions of the metaphysics of presence. While Derrida is often portrayed as a staunch critic of logocentrism in his reading of philosophical texts, the central premise here is that Derrida was implicitly affirming the necessity of logocentrism in his works. As such, this book explores this implicit affirmation of logocentrism as a relatively stable foundation for meaning that can be revised, altered, and appropriated to give way to new possibilities of meaning, while operating within the context of the axioms of logocentrism.
