The Borders of the EU European Integration, Schengen and the Control of Migration (essentials)

Free Download The Borders of the EU: European Integration, "Schengen" and the Control of Migration (essentials) By Jochen Oltmer
2022 | 52 Pages | ISBN: 3658391995 | PDF | 1 MB
This book looks at the background to the policy of free movement in Europe and discusses the consequences. European integration changed migration conditions Under the concept of "freedom of movement", border crossings between EU member states as well as work and settlement by nationals of other member states were largely facilitated; internal borders thus lost their significance. At the same time, the question of how to deal with a common external border and the migration of "third-country nationals" gained in importance. The essential explains why migration from outside Europe was increasingly understood as a problem of security policy and why this still determines the measures for designing a common external border today.

Power Quality Infrastructures and Control

Free Download Power Quality: Infrastructures and Control by Ashutosh K. Giri, Sabha Raj Arya, Josep M. Guerrero, Shailendra Kumar
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 382 Pages | ISBN : 9811979553 | 111.1 MB
This book presents novel idea and concepts developed by the researchers/academia and practicing engineers working in the domain of the power sector infrastructures where power electronics infrastructures are used for improving the system reliability and efficiency in on-grid and off-grid systems. The infrastructures of distributed power generation based on wind, solar, hydro and many other renewable energy sources have increased manifold since last decade due to availability of efficient power converters and small rating generators. The application of power electronics switching devices has made job much easier to make such system infrastructures more reliable and controllable. The power quality (PQ) issues in infrastructures of distributed power generation system are a major concern for customers. The custom power devices such as voltage source converter are used to mitigate the PQ and other issues such as voltage and frequency control under different loading conditions on the supply system. The operation of these custom power devices or other power converters is dependent on the duty cycles generated by control algorithm. The scope of control algorithm may be varying from model predictive control techniques, machine learning techniques to other artificial intelligence-based techniques. In addition to it, some classical control algorithm and adaptive-type control algorithm may also be used for power converter operation. This book creates awareness among teachers, research students and industry persons about better utilization of infrastructures of distributed power generation system by making it more efficient with the use of power electronics and its control.

2013 | 344 Pages | ISBN: 3642353223 | PDF | 13 MB
Soft computing includes several intelligent computing paradigms, like fuzzy logic, neural networks, and bio-inspired optimization algorithms. This book describes the application of soft computing techniques to intelligent control, pattern recognition, and optimization problems. The book is organized in four main parts. The first part deals with nature-inspired optimization methods and their applications. Papers included in this part propose new models for achieving intelligent optimization in different application areas. The second part discusses hybrid intelligent systems for achieving control. Papers included in this part make use of nature-inspired techniques, like evolutionary algorithms, fuzzy logic and neural networks, for the optimal design of intelligent controllers for different kind of applications. Papers in the third part focus on intelligent techniques for pattern recognition and propose new methods to solve complex pattern recognition problems. The fourth part discusses new theoretical concepts and methods for the application of soft computing to many different areas, such as natural language processing, clustering and optimization.

Pharmacological Activity-Based Quality Control of Chinese Herbs

Free Download Shao-Ping Li, "Pharmacological Activity-Based Quality Control of Chinese Herbs"
English | ISBN: 1604568232 | 2013 | 468 pages | PDF | 11 MB
Natural products are the most successful source of drugs. Of the 877 small-molecule new chemical entities introduced between 1981 and 2002, roughly half were natural products, semi-synthetic natural product analogues or natural mimics. Chinese herbs (traditional Chinese medicines, TCMs) have been used for prevention and treatment of diseases for thousands years. It has been attracting intensive attention in the trends of back to nature. As herbal medicines, the conditions of growth, harvest time, process and storage etc. will undoubtedly affect the presence and concentration of the bioactive constituents, thus affecting their quality and efficacy. Up to date, there are few books focussing on the relationship, which is the bridge between TCM and modern medical science, of traditional clinic uses, pharmacological activities and quality control of Chinese herbs.Unfortunately, bioactive compounds in Chinese herbs are usually not or only partially known. Actually, the active compounds considered in Chinese herbs may be different according to their clinical indication. In addition, it is considered that the curative effect of Chinese herbs is an integrative result of a number of bioactive compounds. Therefore, how to control the quality is a big problem. We would like to discuss the quality control based on their traditional clinical uses and pharmacological activities in this book, which is the fundamental step towards developing and modernising such products into evidence based medicines. It will also help the peoples to understand TCMs in modern scientific angles. This book is designed primarily as a textbook for or adjunct to course in herbal remedies, food safety or quality control of herbs. It is also a professional reference whom is in the area of drug discovery, pharmaceutical analysis and food chemistry.
