Discourse and Culture The Creation of America, 1870-1920

Free Download Alun Munslow, "Discourse and Culture: The Creation of America, 1870-1920"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0415553032, 1138176184 | EPUB | pages: 236 | 0.3 mb
Written history is literary artifact: taking this as its starting point, Discourse and Culture argues that the Foucauldian concept of the shifting scale of linguistic and historic values must be the central focus for a new interpretation of American culture and ideology. Six major American historical figures are evaluated as products of the conflict between subordinate and dominant influences in American society: steelmaster Andrew Carnegie; labour leader Terence V. Powderly; historian of the West Frederick J. Turner; social reconstructionist Jane Addams; race leader Booker T. Washington; and black nationalist W.E.B. du Bois. Discourse and Culture re-assesses the relationship between ideology and cultural formation by asking if cultural change can be explained as a function of discourse. The book draws upon the ideas of Althusser, Gramsci and Hayden to address this issue, which lies at the very heart of contemporary debate on the character of cultural history.

The Faithful Creator Affirming Creation and Providence in an Age of Anxiety

Free Download Ron Highfield, "The Faithful Creator: Affirming Creation and Providence in an Age of Anxiety"
English | ISBN: 0830840826 | 2015 | 392 pages | PDF | 4 MB
As Paul says in Romans, creation groans for redemption. But can we trust God to make all things new? The doctrines of creation and providence address the question of human anxiety in the face of suffering and evil. In a world that often seems to be spinning out of control, Christian faith confesses a "faithful Creator" (1 Peter 4:19) who promises a glorious future for all creation. In The Faithful Creator, seasoned professor and author Ron Highfield presents an overview of creation, providence and the problem of evil. He explores a wide range of issues, including the biblical accounts of creation, the dialogue between theology and science, models of providence, philosophical problems of evil and the proposals of open theism and process theism. Both accessible and scholarly, The Faithful Creator is an ideal text for classroom use.

Strategic Management Value Creation, Sustainability, and Performance

Free Download Page West, "Strategic Management: Value Creation, Sustainability, and Performance"
English | ASIN : B0CYGY5C91 | 2024 | 488 pages | PDF | 172 MB
Strategic Management 8e combines theory and practice, updated into 2024, in a unique and integrative approach to the study of strategic management. For instructors it emphasizes the value chain and resource-based sustainability as central integrating strategy concepts. For students it draws on the twin "strategic imperatives" of value creation and opportunity recognition as recurrent themes that help to sync ideas from cover to cover. Together these integrating mechanisms focus on the tension that exists between competing effectively in the present while preparing to compete effectively over the long run. Examples from highly competitive environments illustrate how traditional theoretical principles and analytical frameworks apply to today’s dynamic business climate. Grounded in contemporary strategic management theory, the book also exhibits a very practical approach. An early chapter is devoted exclusively to the key question of Strategy and Performance, which enables richer classroom discussions moving forward. Other chapters provide step-by-step guidance on actually putting strategy frameworks to use (e.g., how to conduct an industry analysis, how to do a resource analysis, how to conduct a value chain analysis) along with clear examples for each. Classroom-tested and peer-reviewed, the author employs an engaging writing style that appeals to students and instructors alike. This 8th edition updates the previous edition and continues its tradition of providing the most current industry and company data of any strategy text in the market.

Euclid-The Creation of Mathematics

Free Download Euclid-The Creation of Mathematics by Benno Artmann
English | PDF | 1999 | 352 Pages | ISBN : 0387984232 | 40.9 MB
This book is for all lovers ofmathematics. It is an attempt to under stand the nature of mathematics from the point of view of its most important early source. Even if the material covered by Euclid may be considered ele mentary for the most part, the way in which he presents it has set the standard for more than two thousand years. Knowing Euclid’s Elements may be ofthe same importance for a mathematician today as knowing Greek architecture is for an architect. Clearly, no con temporary architect will construct a Doric temple, let alone organize a construction site in the way the ancients did. But for the training ofan architect’s aesthetic judgment, a knowledge ofthe Greek her itage is indispensable. I agree with Peter Hilton when he says that genuine mathematics constitutesone ofthe finest expressions ofthe human spirit, and I may add that here as in so many other instances, we have learned that language ofexpression from the Greeks. While presenting geometry and arithmetic Euclid teaches us es sential features of mathematics in a much more general sense. He displays the axiomatic foundation of a mathematical theory and its conscious development towards the solution of a specific problem. We see how abstraction works and enforces the strictly deductive presentation ofa theory. We learn what creative definitions are and v VI –=P:. . :re:. ::::fa=ce how a conceptual grasp leads to toe classification ofthe relevant ob jects.
