Sixteen-year-old Anna is an unremarkable schoolgirl. She does her homework, and keeps out of trouble. At home she emotionally supports her depressive mother and occasionally goes out with friends, but she allows no one to get close. Then Craig Ritchie storms into her life, and nothing is the same again. Nothing much happens in Anna’s life. She gets on with her school work, helps her mum and keeps her fellow students at arm’s length. That is until Craig Ritchie arrives, a new boy at school. For reasons she’s not really sure about, Anna tries to befriend him, but finds him reticent. Then one night Anna is mugged. She tackles her assailant and is horrified to see it is Craig. In the dark, he hadn’t recognised her. They begin talking, and from here their strange friendship develops. Craig, or Ritchie, as he prefers, has been involved in petty crime. He has a gang of friends from his old school who he still knocks around with and, gradually, Anna gets pulled into his world. But Ritchie isn’t really the bad boy he first appears. Between them, he and Anna decide to use crime to try and redistribute wealth, rather than just steal for themselves. Anna thinks of them as latterday Robin Hoods. Their first few jobs work like a dream and Anna is excited and stimulated by her new life on the edge. She also realises that she and Ritchie are falling in love. But then things start to go sour. Anna wants to stop the scams but Ritchie insists on just one final job, to get his own back on the father who abandoned him and his mother before he was even born. But there’s something he’s not telling her. They set up the job to steal from Ritchie’s dad’s house, but when his father discovers them, it transpires that Ritchie is really there for a completely different reason – to kill him. And to Anna’s horror, he pulls out a gun …

Crimes Against Women

Free Download David Wingeate Pike, "Crimes Against Women "
English | ISBN: 1614708134 | 2013 | 312 pages | PDF | 12 MB
So long as women are considered inferior human beings, crimes against women will not be considered as crimes against humanity. The problem cannot be solved simply by women achieving economic freedom and education, but can only be solved by exposing, and then changing, cultural traditions, customs and religious practices that harm humanity by debasing women. When men are tortured, it is considered a crime. When women are tortured, it is dismissed as a custom, a part of the tradition. Millions of people literally believe in the propriety of throwing live women onto their husband’s funeral pyre, or mutilating female genitals, since it is accepted as tradition and has formed part of the culture. This sick mentality of the past must end. This book explores the cultural aspects of injustices against women and the general exploitation by a male-oriented society.

The Laws of Robots Crimes, Contracts, and Torts

Free Download The Laws of Robots: Crimes, Contracts, and Torts By Ugo Pagallo (auth.)
2013 | 202 Pages | ISBN: 9400765630 | PDF | 2 MB
This book explores how the design, construction, and use of robotics technology may affect today’s legal systems and, more particularly, matters of responsibility and agency in criminal law, contractual obligations, and torts. By distinguishing between the behaviour of robots as tools of human interaction, and robots as proper agents in the legal arena, jurists will have to address a new generation of "hard cases." General disagreement may concern immunity in criminal law (e.g., the employment of robot soldiers in battle), personal accountability for certain robots in contracts (e.g., robo-traders), much as clauses of strict liability and negligence-based responsibility in extra-contractual obligations (e.g., service robots in tort law). Since robots are here to stay, the aim of the law should be to wisely govern our mutual relationships.

Environmental Disasters and Land Grabs As Crimes Against Humanity

Free Download Laura Westra, "Environmental Disasters and Land Grabs As Crimes Against Humanity "
English | ISBN: 1536131776 | 2018 | 321 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Increasingly people in every continent of the world are becoming aware of the grave consequences of the current environmental problems, from climate change to unsustainable agricultural growth durations. These consequences include dangerous, environmentally caused results that affect our health and the health of our children, as well as our social well-being and our very basic rights. This book raises a radical question: Can environmental disasters and land grab crimes, in fact, be seen as crimes against humanity? That approach is defended through a number of present legal documents and through existing and novel arguments. With this in mind, who is responsible for the present situation, and who should be held accountable for both damages and harm towards those parties affected? The main problems concern holding governments (who minimally permit, but often promote many of the practices of legal and natural persons) responsible for initiating and supporting the activities that ensure their economic benefit, which is leading to the present impasse. The authors discuss how such individuals can be held accountable singly and collectively for the harms they impose on all life.
