English | ISBN: 3031450744 | 2023 | 147 pages | EPUB, PDF | 21 MB + 4 MB
This book challenges the Western contemporary "praise for Nature". From food to body practices, from ecological discourses to the Covid-19 pandemic, contemporary imaginaries abound with representations of an ideal "pure Nature", essentially defined according to a logic of denial of any artificial, modified, manipulated ― in short, cultural ― aspect.

An Aesthetic Critique of Digital Enhancement Government of the Self and Desire

Free Download Sarah Bianchi, "An Aesthetic Critique of Digital Enhancement: Government of the Self and Desire"
English | ISBN: 1666928313 | 2023 | 312 pages | EPUB, PDF | 547 KB + 2 MB
The socio-cultural phenomenon of digital enhancement, that is, the attempt to perfect the subject’s offline life by means of digital media, seduces people into participating in digitalization. Subjects paradoxically want to participate in digital change even though it is well known that digitalization also impairs their freedom and privacy, and this book investigates both the freedom-impairing and the freedom-enhancing aspects of digital enhancement. Sarah Bianchi provides an empirically informed critical aesthetic diagnosis, a perspective that makes the overlooked affect- and power-sensitive Janus face of subjectivity in digital enhancement perceivable: the subjects’ desire to be governed by the logic of perfection-that is, the heart of digital enhancement-and their simultaneous desire for self-government. To this end, An Aesthetic Critique of Digital Enhancement: Government of the Self and Desire makes Foucault’s "history of the present" in its Nietzschean genealogy productive for contemporary critical thought on digital enhancement. Through genealogical critique, this approach provides the needed semantics to question the costs of our digital present and to conceptualize how an enlightened agency might be critically constructed.

Kant’s Critique of the Power of Judgment Critical Essays

Free Download Paul Guyer, Nick Zangwill, Christopher Janaway, "Kant’s Critique of the Power of Judgment: Critical Essays"
English | 2003 | pages: 282 | ISBN: 0742514196, 0742514188 | PDF | 16,2 mb
Kant’s Critique of the Power of Judgment, first published in 1790, was the last of the great philosopher’s three critiques, following on the heels of Critique of Pure Reason (1781) and Critique of Practical Reason (1788). In the first two, Kant dealt with metaphysics and morality; in the third, Kant turns to the aesthetic dimension of human experience, showing how our experiences of natural and artistic beauty, the sublime magnitude and might of nature, and of purposive organisms and ecological systems gives us palpable evidece that it is possible for us not only to form moral intentions, but also to realize our freely chosen moral goals within nature as we experience it. The present volume collects twelve of the most important critical discussions on the Critique of the Power of Judgment written by leading Kant scholars and aestheticians from the United States and Great Britain. In addition to a substantive introduction by the editor, the book includes an extensive, annotated bibliography of the most important work on Kant and on the background and arguments of his third Critique published throughout the twentieth century.

Philosophical and Political Consequences of the Critique of Political Economy

Free Download Philosophical and Political Consequences of the Critique of Political Economy: Recognizing Capital
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031375440 | 518 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 3 MB
This book extends the approach that Murray and Schuler develop in their companion volume, False Moves in Philosophy and Social Theory: Losing Public Purpose. The chapters form a connected inquiry into consequences of capital, a far-reaching social form, through a critique of political economy and the mindset it shares with much modern philosophy and social theory. The authors call this bifurcating mentality factoring philosophy. Factoring philosophy mistakes the distinguishable for the separable. It splits the subjective and objective, form and content, and it takes the object of social theory to be an impossible economy-in-general, stripped of constitutive social forms. The critique of factoring philosophy structures the collection, which makes a wide-ranging contribution to the research field of the critique of political economy as critical social theory. Ultimately, this book solidifies Murray and Schuler’s impact on the study of political economy, political philosophy, modern philosophy, Hegel, Marx, and critical theory.
