Developments in Risk-based Approaches to Safety contains the invited papers presented at the Fourteenth annual Safety-critical Systems Symposium, held at Bristol, UK in February 2006.The papers included in this volume address the most critical topics in the field of safety-critical systems. The focus this year, considered from various perspectives, is on recent developments in risk-based approaches. Subjects discussed include innovation in risk analysis, management risk, the safety case, software safety, language development and the creation of systems for complex control functions.Papers provide a mix of industrial experience and academic research results and are presented under the headings: Tutorial, New Approaches to Risk Assessment, Experience of Developing Safety Cases, Management Influence on Safety, Software Safety, New Technologies in Safety-critical Systems, Adding Dimensions to Safety Cases.

Intelligent Control Developments in Public Order Policing in Canada

Free Download Willem de Lint, "Intelligent Control: Developments in Public Order Policing in Canada"
English | ISBN: 0802038468 | 2009 | 240 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Massive public protests have had a prominent presence at the turn of the millennium, with many thousands of protestors controlled by small, yet, increasingly specialized police forces. Investigating the ways in which police practices have evolved in relation to labour strikes and protests, Intelligent Control examines the means by which police forces have developed more coercive and consent-based approaches to regulating social unrest.

Methods and Instrumentations Results and Recent Developments

Free Download Methods and Instrumentations: Results and Recent Developments By A. S. Marfunin (auth.), Prof. Dr. A. S. Marfunin (eds.)

All existing introductory reviews of mineralogy are written accord ing to the same algorithm, sometimes called the "Dana System of Mineralogy". Even modern advanced handbooks, which are cer tainly necessary, include basic data on minerals and are essentially descriptive. When basic information on the chemistry, structure, optical and physical properties, distinguished features and para genesis of 200-400 minerals is presented, then there is practically no further space available to include new ideas and concepts based on recent mineral studies. A possible solution to this dilemma would be to present a book beginning where introductory textbooks end for those already famil iar with the elementary concepts. Such a volume would be tailored to specialists in all fields of science and industry, interested in the most recent results in mineralogy. This approach may be called Advanced Mineralogy. Here, an attempt has been made to survey the current possibilities and aims in mineral mater investigations, including the main characteristics of all the methods, the most important problems and topics of mineralogy, and related studies. The individual volumes are composed of short, condensed chap ters. Each chapter presents in a complete, albeit condensed, form specific problems, methods, theories, and directions of investigations, and estimates their importance and strategic position in science and industry.

New Developments in Differential Geometry Proceedings of the Colloquium on Differential Geometry, Debrecen, Hungary,July 26-30

Free Download New Developments in Differential Geometry: Proceedings of the Colloquium on Differential Geometry, Debrecen, Hungary,July 26-30, 1994 By D. V. Alekseevsky, S. Marchiafava (auth.), L. Tamássy, J. Szenthe (eds.)
1996 | 437 Pages | ISBN: 9401065535 | PDF | 11 MB
This volume contains thirty-six research articles presented at the Colloquium on Differential Geometry, which was held in Debrecen, Hungary, July 26-30, 1994. The conference was a continuation in the series of the Colloquia of the János Bolyai Society. The range covered reflects current activity in differential geometry. The main topics are Riemannian geometry, Finsler geometry, submanifold theory and applications to theoretical physics. Includes several interesting results by leading researchers in these fields: e.g. on non-commutative geometry, spin bordism groups, Cosserat continuum, field theories, second order differential equations, sprays, natural operators, higher order frame bundles, Sasakian and Kähler manifolds. Audience: This book will be valuable for researchers and postgraduate students whose work involves differential geometry, global analysis, analysis on manifolds, relativity and gravitation and electromagnetic theory.
