Discrete Diversity and Dispersion Maximization A Tutorial on Metaheuristic Optimization

Free Download Discrete Diversity and Dispersion Maximization: A Tutorial on Metaheuristic Optimization by Rafael Martiacute
English | November 17, 2023 | ISBN: 3031383095 | 365 pages | MOBI | 22 Mb
This book demonstrates the metaheuristic methodologies that apply to maximum diversity problems to solve them. Maximum diversity problems arise in many practical settings from facility location to social network analysis and constitute an important class of NP-hard problems in combinatorial optimization. In fact, this volume presents a "missing link" in the combinatorial optimization-related literature. In providing the basic principles and fundamental ideas of the most successful methodologies for discrete optimization, this book allows readers to create their own applications for other discrete optimization problems. Additionally, the book is designed to be useful and accessible to researchers and practitioners in management science, industrial engineering, economics, and computer science, while also extending value to non-experts in combinatorial optimization. Owed to the tutorials presented in each chapter, this book may be used in a master course, a doctoral seminar, or as supplementary to a primary text in upper undergraduate courses.

Modelling the Dispersion of Radionuclides in the Marine Environment An Introduction

Free Download Modelling the Dispersion of Radionuclides in the Marine Environment: An Introduction By Dr. Raúl Periáñez (auth.)
2005 | 201 Pages | ISBN: 3540248757 | PDF | 4 MB
This book is a practical guide to the subject of numerical modelling of radioactivity dispersion in the marine environment. Thus, the techniques and numerical procedures required are explained in detail, with the aim of enabling the reader to build a real mathematical model. The book covers basic concepts and techniques, such as solving the advection-diffusion equation in a simple 1D form, as well as the most recent developments (full 3D models for non-conservative radionuclides including chemical reactions and speciation). A chapter is dedicated to the basic hydrodynamic modelling that is always required to simulate the dispersion of tracers in the sea; Eulerian and Lagrangian modelling techniques are also described. A chapter describes sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, the final stage in modelling works. A review on some published radionuclide dispersion models is also included.

Multivariate Dispersion, Central Regions, and Depth The Lift Zonoid Approach

Free Download Multivariate Dispersion, Central Regions, and Depth: The Lift Zonoid Approach by Karl Mosler
English | PDF | 2002 | 303 Pages | ISBN : 0387954120 | 21.8 MB
This book introduces a new representation of probability measures, the lift zonoid representation, and demonstrates its usefulness in statistical applica tions. The material divides into nine chapters. Chapter 1 exhibits the main idea of the lift zonoid representation and surveys the principal results of later chap ters without proofs. Chapter 2 provides a thorough investigation into the theory of the lift zonoid. All principal properties of the lift zonoid are col lected here for later reference. The remaining chapters present applications of the lift zonoid approach to various fields of multivariate analysis. Chap ter 3 introduces a family of central regions, the zonoid trimmed regions, by which a distribution is characterized. Its sample version proves to be useful in describing data. Chapter 4 is devoted to a new notion of data depth, zonoid depth, which has applications in data analysis as well as in inference. In Chapter 5 nonparametric multivariate tests for location and scale are in vestigated; their test statistics are based on notions of data depth, including the zonoid depth. Chapter 6 introduces the depth of a hyperplane and tests which are built on it. Chapter 7 is about volume statistics, the volume of the lift zonoid and the volumes of zonoid trimmed regions; they serve as multivariate measures of dispersion and dependency. Chapter 8 treats the lift zonoid order, which is a stochastic order to compare distributions for their dispersion, and also indices and related orderings.
