Women’s Drug Use in Everyday Life

Free Download Women’s Drug Use in Everyday Life
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031460561 | 352 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 4.4 MB
This open access book explores the increasing role of psychoactive substances in contemporary everyday life, focussing on women’s use. Drawing on an ethnographic study in Sweden, it uses cultural studies and queer phenomenology to analyse the women’s narratives of drug use relating to themes that encompass social, legal, cultural, embodied and gendered perspectives on drugs in the contemporary Western world. It examines topics such as stigma, happiness, children, the body, gifts, the drug market, medication, sickness and health and also the orientation of themselves towards others, to social and cultural norms, to drug laws and to the substances. It discusses how drug related spaces and directions be analysed in terms of gender and class, and how, in turn, the directions of contemporary society and culture can be affected by drug use. It speaks to academics in Sociology, Criminology, Ethnology, Gender studies, Law and History.

Natural Product-based Synthetic Drug Molecules in Alzheimer’s Disease

Free Download Natural Product-based Synthetic Drug Molecules in Alzheimer’s Disease: Therapeutic & Theranostic Agents
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9819960371 | 794 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 37 MB
This book illustrates the importance of natural products as the source for the development of novel drugs for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease. It also highlights the role of reactive oxygen species and altered metal homeostasis in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and examines the potential of antioxidants and anti-chelating agents in the clinical intervention of neurodegenerative diseases. The book also discusses the role of neuroinflammation in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. The chapters provide information about the drug targets, progress in the development of natural product-based therapeutics, biomarkers, fluorescent diagnostic tools, and theranostic for Alzheimer’s disease. The book also provides information about the design and synthesis of natural product-based derivatives against the various targets of Alzheimer’s disease including epigenetic targets and the metal dyshomeostasis hypothesis. Cutting across different disciplines, this book is a valuable source for neuroscientists, chemical biologists, pharmaceutical researchers, and synthetic biologists.

Natural Product Based Drug Discovery Against Human Parasites

Free Download Natural Product Based Drug Discovery Against Human Parasites: Opportunities and Challenges
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9811996040 | 1034 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 52 MB
This book comprehensively reviews current and novel treatment strategies against human parasites, including protozoans and helminths, using natural products. The initial chapters summarize the conventional treatment strategies and natural-product based therapeutics against these parasites. It discusses biochemical tools and techniques for the discovery of natural product based drugs against human parasites. The book also covers the ingenious and innovative mechanisms to achieve drug resistance by the protozoan parasites and strategies to overcome the resistance. It entails mechanistic insight into the modulation of host immune responses to delay or inhibit parasite clearance and explores host-pathogen interactions that mediate immunity against subsequent parasite challenge. In turn, the volume helps in understanding the immunobiology of the parasites and tools to identify candidate vaccine antigens and novel delivery systems against the protozoan parasites. Lastly, it explores the role of advanced methods, including nanotechnology, marine bioprospecting, and microorganisms-derived biochemicals against the protozoan parasites.

Exploring Drug Delivery to the Peritoneum

Free Download Exploring Drug Delivery to the Peritoneum
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031316932 | 453 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 28 MB
The Peritoneal cavity (PC) is the key metastatic site for intra-abdominal malignancies (e.g., GI tract and rectal cancer). PC sites can be used to target several other diseases where lymphatic drug delivery is desired without dumping large amounts of the drug. Till recently, it was thought that treatment with curative intent was impossible but that was challenged by the introduction of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and PIPAC (pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy). Recently, a growing number of preclinical and clinical studies advocate intraperitoneal (IP) chemotherapy as an alternative post-operative therapy for cancer. Although their effectiveness has been proven both experimentally and clinically, there is still little understanding of the role of drug delivery systems (DDS) in targeting drugs in the intraperitoneal (IP) cavity.
