Free Download Günther Schlee, "How Enemies Are Made: Towards a Theory of Ethnic and Religious Conflict "
English | ISBN: 1845454944 | 2008 | 206 pages | PDF | 2 MB
In popular perception cultural differences or ethnic affiliation are factors that cause conflict or political fragmentation although this is not borne out by historical evidence. This book puts forward an alternative conflict theory. The author develops a decision theory which explains the conditions under which differing types of identification are preferred. Group identification is linked to competition for resources like water, territory, oil, political charges, or other advantages. Rivalry for resources can cause conflicts but it does not explain who takes whose side in a conflict situation. This book explores possibilities of reducing violent conflicts and ends with a case study, based on personal experience of the author, of conflict resolution.

Today the world is in a transition period to the next level of development of the human community on our planet. God created the universe to exist in constant motion and balance. But in human society and politics, there are always different points of view on global problems, which often threaten nuclear war and the disappearance of world civilization. Moreover, due to the current political and economic situation, the world is divided into two large and opposing groups. The first group includes totalitarian autocratic countries Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. The remainder of the world, led by the US, Canada, Australia, and EU nations, is included in the second category. The situation is complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic, inflation, the high cost of living, Russian aggression against Ukraine, the war between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas and Iranian proxies. History repeats itself. The world is in a Cold War between two coalitions: Good and Evil. Based on actual events, the author of this book attempted to illustrate and analyse the historical perspectives of political leaders in Moscow, the EU, and Washington regarding the stances of the major powers.

English | ISBN: 1449090567 | 2010 | 224 pages | EPUB | 254 KB
This first-person narrative tells the true story of Marguerite Kirchner, whose multicultural family was living in Germany when WWII began. We have remained as true as possible to Marguerite’s account which reveals to readers the cruelty of war and the innocence of past generations. As a child, her family lived a luxurious life. Her mother was a French aristocrat, and her father a wealthy Austrian diplomat, and so her story begins. Always defiant, Margie was forced into a labor camp for dissident teenagers. She attended the University of Berlin during the Berlin bombings, became a young teacher in the Polish war zone, was captured as a prisoner of war and escaped, and after the war, worked for the Allied Forces, helping repatriate those who had been displaced. Her story demonstrates cunning and great courage. She went from affluence to poverty and survived the war on her wits alone, dependent on only herself and the skills she’d acquired from traveling with her family. Only after the war does she reflect on what her single-minded struggle for survival cost her, and a new journey, of a very different kind, begins.

Free Download Emory C. Cushing, "Unseen Enemies: The Fight to Control Mosquitoes, Lice, Flies and Other Deadly Insects in World War II"
English | 2020 | ASIN: B083NJBJML | EPUB | pages: 160 | 2.1 mb
Unseen Enemies: The Fight to Control Mosquitoes, Lice, Flies and Other Deadly Insects in World War II, first published in 1958 as Entomology in World War II, is the fascinating, little-told story of the vital role played by scientists to control insects and insect-related diseases during the Second World War. In both the European and Pacific theaters of the war, insect-related diseases were a constant danger to soldiers and civilian, ranging from skin irritations to severe, life-threatening fevers of dengue or malaria, to potentially epidemic-causing plagues. Unseen Enemies provides a look at the nature of the most common insects affecting humans – mosquitoes, lice, mites, flies, and fleas, and discusses the often new and innovative compounds and measures developed during the war for control. Fortunately, there are many success stories discussed in the book which aided the Allied war effort, and countless veterans would give thanks for the work done by these researchers to make their grim task safer and more comfortable.

Enemies of the People Hitler’s Critics and the Gestapo

Free Download J. Ryan Stackhouse, "Enemies of the People: Hitler’s Critics and the Gestapo"
English | ISBN: 1108832601 | 2022 | 330 pages | AZW3 | 5 MB
How do terror and popularity merge under a dictatorship? How did the Gestapo deal with critics of Nazism? Based on hundreds of secret police case files, Enemies of the People explores the day-to-day reality of political policing under Hitler. Examining the Gestapo’s policy of ‘selective enforcement’, J. Ryan Stackhouse challenges the abiding perception of the Gestapo as policing exclusively through terror. Instead, he reveals the complex system of enforcement that defined the relationship between state and society in the Third Reich and helps to explain the Germans’ abiding support for Hitler and their complicity in the regime’s crimes. Stories of everyday life in Nazi Germany paint the clearest picture yet of just how differently the Gestapo handled certain groups and actions, and the routine investigation, interrogation, and enforcement practices behind this system. Enemies of the People offers penetrating insights into just how reasonable selective enforcement appeared to Germans, and draws unavoidable parallels with the contemporary threat of authoritarianism.
