Free Download Intelligent Data Mining in Law Enforcement Analytics: New Neural Networks Applied to Real Problems By William J. Tastle (auth.), Massimo Buscema, William J. Tastle (eds.)
2013 | 518 Pages | ISBN: 9400749139 | PDF | 9 MB
This book provides a thorough summary of the means currently available to the investigators of Artificial Intelligence for making criminal behavior (both individual and collective) foreseeable, and for assisting their investigative capacities. The volume provides chapters on the introduction of artificial intelligence and machine learning suitable for an upper level undergraduate with exposure to mathematics and some programming skill or a graduate course. It also brings the latest research in Artificial Intelligence to life with its chapters on fascinating applications in the area of law enforcement, though much is also being accomplished in the fields of medicine and bioengineering. Individuals with a background in Artificial Intelligence will find the opening chapters to be an excellent refresher but the greatest excitement will likely be the law enforcement examples, for little has been done in that area. The editors have chosen to shine a bright light on law enforcement analytics utilizing artificial neural network technology to encourage other researchers to become involved in this very important and timely field of study.

Alternative Enforcement of Competition Law

Free Download Eva Lachnit, "Alternative Enforcement of Competition Law"
English | ISBN: 9462367078 | 2016 | 466 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Competition authorities are known for imposing enormous fines on companies that have infringed the law. However, most authorities are equally active in educating, deliberating, influencing, or preventing, to which end they have different enforcement instruments at their disposal. Imposing a fine (or issuing an order, or imposing a periodic penalty payment) through a fully adversarial procedure can be characterized as formal, based on a vertical relationship between companies and competition authorities, deterrence-based, punitive, reactive and case-specific. By contrast, alternative enforcement entails a deviation from command-and-control style enforcement by using enforcement instruments. It can be characterized as informal, horizontal, compliance-based, restorative, preventative or efficient, or a combination of one or more of the above. This research analyzes and compares the use of certain alternative enforcement instruments (negotiated procedures, markets work, individual guidance, and compliance programs) by the Dutch Autoriteit Consument en Markt, the UK Competition and Markets Authority, and the French Autorite de la Concurrence. It is an interesting work for both academics and practitioners in the field of competition law and enforcement. Dissertation [Subject: Commercial Law, Comparative Law]

Free Download Brendon Murphy, "Regulating Undercover Law Enforcement: The Australian Experience"
English | ISBN: 9813363800 | 2021 | 393 pages | PDF | 4 MB
This book examines the way in which undercover police investigation has come to be regulated in Australia. Drawing on documentary and doctrinal legal analysis, this book investigates how, in the space of a single decade, Australian law makers set out to regulate one of the most difficult aspects of police: undercover investigation. In so doing, the Australian experience represents a paradigm model. And yet despite its success, it is a system of law and practice that has a dark side – a model of investigation to relies heavily on activities that are unlawful in the absence of authorisation. It is a model that is as much concerned with the surveillance and control of police as it is with suspected criminal conduct.
