Dark Nature Anti-Pastoral Essays in American Literature and Culture

Free Download Richard Schneider, "Dark Nature: Anti-Pastoral Essays in American Literature and Culture "
English | ISBN: 1498528139 | 2018 | 290 pages | EPUB | 15 MB
In The Ecological Thought, eco-philosopher Timothy Morton has argued for the inclusion of "dark ecology" in our thinking about nature. Dark ecology, he argues, puts hesitation, uncertainty, irony, and thoughtfulness back into ecological thinking." The ecological thought, he says, should include "negativity and irony, ugliness and horror." Focusing on this concept of "dark ecology" and its invitation to add an anti-pastoral perspective to ecocriticism, this collection of essays on American literature and culture offers examples of how a vision of nature’s darker side can create a fuller understanding of humanity’s relation to nature. Included are essays on canonical American literature, on new voices in American literature, and on non-print American media. This is the first collection of essays applying the "dark ecology" principle to American literature.

This volume contains over twenty articles written by outstanding Turcologists in honour of the Norwegian scholar Bernt Brendemoen, whose oeuvre is reviewed in an introductory chapter. The topics addressed in the articles represent important fields of research in current Turcological studies. Most chapters are devoted to the study of Turkic languages and varieties, exploring issues such as historical developments in the sound systems in Chuvash, Karamanli Turkish and Uyghur, the history and typology of Balkan Turkish and Tuvan, contact induced phenomena in Cypriot Turkish, the writing system of Turkmen, language documentation demonstrated by the examples of Lithuanian Karaim and Noghay, properties of borrowed vocabulary in Turkish, the lexicology of Crimean Tatar, and specific features of diaspora Turkish. Other articles address topics in Turkish literature, such as Turkish science fiction and the works of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Namik Kemal, and Fatma Aliye Hanim. Black Flesh Matters Essays on Runagate Interpretation

Free Download Vincent L. Wimbush, "Black Flesh Matters: Essays on Runagate Interpretation"
English | ISBN: 1978712693 | 2022 | 420 pages | EPUB, PDF | 30 MB + 7 MB
These essays, written over more than thirty years of Vincent L. Wimbush’s career as a scholar, provide a response to the nearly universal, persistent, and sedimented modern-world hyper-signification of Black flesh, always needing to be framed, humiliated, policed, and dirtied. Because Wimbush is a scholar of religion as culture-having to do with social practices and their psycho-politics as regimes of knowledge, discourse, formation, and power relations-his ex-centric transdisciplinary interest in scriptures has been viewed, in some circles, as controversial. Yet it is Wimbush’s linkage of the modern hyper-signification of Black flesh-leading to racialization and racism, especially anti-Black racism-to the scriptural as shorthand for discourse and relations of power that makes this work compelling.

Toward Sustainable Regions Essays in Honor of Kiyoko Hagihara

Free Download Toward Sustainable Regions: Essays in Honor of Kiyoko Hagihara
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9819956668 | 360 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 35 MB
This book deals with regional sustainability, which is one of the biggest issues in Japan today, and presents suggested methods and cases to show how regional management should be carried out. Today, regions in Japan are facing long-term global challenges such as changes in climate and in international relations, as well as regional financial difficulties due to depopulation and aging. Additional causes are the decline of traditional culture and community sustainability, the crisis of public services, inner- and inter-regional disparities, disaster response, and other local and region-specific issues that are intricately related. To meet the challenge of those issues, local actors must deal with the regional issues themselves and solve them in cooperation with various other stakeholders. From this perspective, the book exhibits regional management frameworks, focusing especially on evaluation, decision making, and aid in multi-dimensional approaches, and examines case studies for making regions sustainable by allowing diverse actors to realize diverse values and standards in cooperation. The chapters cover a wide range of disciplines, including urban science, economics, geography, landscape, real estate, and public finance, which makes it possible to shed light on a particular region.
