Artificial intelligence is a key technology with great expectations in science, industry, and everyday life. This book discusses both the perspectives and the limitations of this technology. This concerns the practical, theoretical, and conceptual challenges that AI has to face. In an early phase of symbolic AI, AI focused on formal programs (e.g., expert systems), in which rule-based knowledge was processed with the help of symbolic logic. Today, AI is dominated by statistics-based machine learning methods and Big Data. While this sub-symbolic AI is extremely successful (e.g., chatbots like ChatGPT), it is often not transparent. The book argues for explainable and reliable AI, in which the logical and mathematical foundations of AI-algorithms become understandable and verifiable.

1995 | 343 Pages | ISBN: 3642633609 | PDF | 24 MB
The Historical School of Economics develops a historical theory of the economy and of business ethics. It investigates the ethical and cultural determinants of economic behaviour and economic institutions and forms an ethical and cultural theory of economics and business and the origin what, in the present, is called "institutional economics". Being one of the first comprehensive studies in the English language of the German "Historical and Ethical School of Economics", the book presents the theory from Wilhelm Roscher to Gustav Schmoller, the foundations of historism and the humanities of Wilhelm Dilthey and their present relevance. It also makes visible which impact the Historical School has for the foundations of contemporary business ethics and the cultural theory of the economy.

The Ethical Dimension of Financial Institutions and Markets

Free Download The Ethical Dimension of Financial Institutions and Markets By Antonio Argandoña (auth.), Professor Dr. Antonio Argandoña (eds.)
1995 | 263 Pages | ISBN: 3642797253 | PDF | 28 MB
Discussing ethics applied to finance can become a trivial and selfjustifying task if left to the practical men, or a task with no connection to reality, if performed by philosophers. This book, however, turns out to be an exciting piece of work, useful, provocative, full of ideas and suggestions, as experts in ethics discuss specific issues related to the financial institutions and markets, with the men and women that carry out the daily practice in such institutions and markets, as well as with scholars of economics and finance. Thus, the book covers everything from daily subjects to issues of a deeper nature, using a simple and clear language with solid foundations in economics and ethics, from a necessarily plural and open perspective.

The Drama of Complaint Ethical Provocations in Shakespeare’s Tragedy

Free Download Dr Emily Shortslef, "The Drama of Complaint: Ethical Provocations in Shakespeare’s Tragedy"
English | ISBN: 0192868489 | 2023 | 240 pages | PDF | 2 MB
The Drama of Complaint: Ethical Provocations in Shakespeare’s Tragedy is the first book-length study of complaint in Shakespearean drama. Emily Shortslef makes two main arguments. One is that poetic forms of complaint-expressions of discontent and unhappiness-operate in and across the period’s literary and nonliterary discourses as sites of thought about human flourishing, the subject of ethical inquiry. The other is that Shakespearean configurations of these ubiquitous forms in theatrical scenes of complaint model new ways of thinking about ethical subjectivity, or ways of desiring, acting, and living consonant with notions of the good life.
