Based on the curriculum of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists’ Advanced Training Skills Module in Fetal Medicine, this book provides a comprehensive knowledge base for all doctors practising in obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine worldwide. It acts as a reference source for the many changing concepts in fetal medicine and is well-illustrated with images of normal and abnormal findings in pregnancy that will facilitate proper understanding of normal and pathological fetal development. Coverage includes embryology, fetal physiology; fetal anomalies; fetal diseases; prescribing and teratogenesis in pregnancy; termination of pregnancy; fetal growth and wellbeing; multiple pregnancy; the placenta and amniotic fluid; and diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures. Readers will benefit from the theoretical knowledge and vast clinical experience of the internationally renowned authorship. Overall this book will prepare you for dealing with congenital abnormalities detected during pregnancy, including the organization and supervision of screening programmes for structural and chromosomal anomalies.

This book covers two decades of the author’s studies about fetal-originated diseases. It contains researches from the aspects of multiple inducing factors of fetal-originated diseases, including prenatal xenobiotic exposure, nutritional deficiency and other adverse environment during pregnancy. The authors introduce a series of animal models for studying the fetal origin of a variety of metabolic and neuropsychiatric diseases, and propose the mechanisms of developmental toxicity and susceptibility to multiple diseases, such as glucocorticoid programming. Moreover, the extended knowledge are also clearly addressed, like identification of biomarkers of developmental toxicity, and the strategies for early warning, prevention and treatment of fetal-originated diseases. Thus, the book is a systematic and complete reference for the researchers of related areas.

Color Atlas of Human Fetal and Neonatal Histology (2024)

Free Download Linda M. Ernst, Eduardo D. Ruchelli, Chrystalle Katte Carreon, "Color Atlas of Human Fetal and Neonatal Histology"
English | 2019 | pages: 429 | ISBN: 3030114244 | PDF | 152,7 mb
The first edition of Color Atlas of Fetal and Neonatal Histology was an important step in updating the histology texts available to practicing pathologists and pathology trainees who perform fetal autopsy and/or participate in research involving fetal tissues. It was a well-received volume that filled a major gap in pathology references related to normal histology and provided a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of fetal and neonatal histology. While the basics of fetal histology have changed little in the intervening years since publication of the first edition, this successor edition provides new insights and a fresh perspective.

Maternal Fetal Transmission of Human Viruses and their Influence on Tumorigenesis

Free Download Maternal Fetal Transmission of Human Viruses and their Influence on Tumorigenesis By György Berencsi III, Maria Takács (auth.), György Berencsi III (eds.)
2012 | 464 Pages | ISBN: 9400742150 | PDF | 5 MB
The human foetus is separated from the maternal blood by the syncytiotrophoblast induced by endogeneous human retrovirus-encoded proteins. This barrier is a highly developed one, which suppors apical-basolateral transport of maternal idiotype and anti-idiotype IgG, IgG-virus complexes. The selective maternal-fetal transport of epitope- and paratope-bearing entities can influence the developping fetal immune system during pregnancy. The bidirectional maternal-fetal transfer of cells are of even more importance during pregnancy. Maternal cells with latent viruses transport viruses without impairment of fetal development. Cells with premaligant and malignant genetic transformation are also transported to the fetus. Fetal and neonatal tumours are initiated by such cells in spite of the antitumour potential of fetal organism. On the contary, the fetal cells repair maternal tissue injouries and survive in the organisms of the recipients for decades. These possess new consequences for the neonatal immunity and organ transplatation surgery.

Threats to Fetal, Placental and Myometrial Oxygenation

Free Download Threats to Fetal, Placental and Myometrial Oxygenation: A Unified Hemodynamic Approach
English | 2024 | ISBN: 303160363X| 224 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 41 MB
This book presents the theory that positional obstruction of the inferior vena cava by the gravid uterus might contribute to the causation of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, preterm birth, dysfunctional labor and uterine atony. Investigating this possibility is timely, since non-invasive technology now exists which detects hemodynamically significant obstruction of the inferior vena cava in real time, by relying on the fact that such obstruction causes an immediate decrease in maternal cardiac output. If further research shows that obstruction of uterine venous return at the inferior vena cava can cause maternal or fetal injury, systematic reduction of this obstruction during gestation might improve maternal and fetal outcomes.
