English | ISBN: 1666927023 | 2023 | 208 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
Fields of Fire: Emancipation and Resistance in Colombia identifies the concept of the emancipatory network as a coordination of loose, discrete, and differentiated actors to explain how activists successfully practice high-risk activism. Illustrating that previous studies on high-risk activism come to contradictory conclusions, Louis Edgar Esparza argues that networks rather than individual characteristics are associated with mobilization. The book features unique ethnographic material of a Colombian sugarcane worker strike and includes interviews with workers and human rights activists in Valle del Cauca and Bogotá that reveal different forms of knowledge that activists bring to a social movement. It argues that the combination of these different forms of knowledge bolsters the movement’s resiliency in the face of repression. The book provides a counterfactual chapter, illustrating a lack of mobilization where the emancipatory network is absent. Ultimately, it integrates English and Spanish-language social movement literatures, revealing important theoretical insights, and is detailed with data from various sources to outline the state context of social movement action.

Diagnosis in Social Fields and Networks

Free Download Diagnosis in Social Fields and Networks: Theories and Practice in Complex Social Contexts
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031524144 | 187 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 4 MB
Containing a novel compilation of theoretical and methodological approaches, this textbook lays out the most relevant foundations of clinical sociology. Relying heavily on well-recognized medical models and concepts to help communicate ideas (e.g. treatment, diagnosis, clinical, cure), the methods of social diagnosis and social therapy presented in this book will help in better and socially informed protection of vulnerable individuals and citizens as well as an informed design of protection policies for macro, meso and micro levels of society.

Algebraic Function Fields and Codes

15 years after the ?rst printing of Algebraic Function Fields and Codes, the mathematics editors of Springer Verlag encouraged me to revise and extend the book. Besides numerous minor corrections and amendments, the second edition di?ers from the ?rst one in two respects. Firstly I have included a series of exercises at the end of each chapter. Some of these exercises are fairly easy and should help the reader to understand the basic concepts, others are more advanced and cover additional material. Secondly a new chapter titled "Asymptotic Bounds for the Number of Rational Places" has been added. This chapter contains a detailed presentation of the asymptotic theory of function ?elds over ?nite ?elds, including the explicit construction of some asymptotically good and optimal towers. Based on these towers, a complete and self-contained proof of the Tsfasman-Vladut-Zink Theorem is given. This theorem is perhaps the most beautiful application of function ?elds to coding theory. The codes which are constructed from algebraic function ?elds were ?rst introduced by V. D. Goppa. Accordingly I referred to them in the ?rst edition as geometric Goppa codes. Since this terminology has not generally been – cepted in the literature, I now use the more common term algebraic geometry codes or AG codes. I would like to thank Alp Bassa, Arnaldo Garcia, Cem Guneri, ¨ Sevan Harput and Alev Topuzo? glu for their help in preparing the second edition.

This book provides an up-to-date introduction to the theory of manifolds, submanifolds, semi-Riemannian geometry and warped product geometry, and their applications in geometry and physics. It then explores the properties of conformal vector fields and conformal transformations, including their fixed points, essentiality and the Lichnerowicz conjecture. Later chapters focus on the study of conformal vector fields on special Riemannian and Lorentzian manifolds, with a special emphasis on general relativistic spacetimes and the evolution of conformal vector fields in terms of initial data.

Electromagnetic Sources and Electromagnetic Fields

Free Download Electromagnetic Sources and Electromagnetic Fields
English | 2024 | ISBN: 9819994489 | 556 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 60 MB
This book presents a modified spherical harmonic expansion method in which the electromagnetic fields and their sources are expanded with the same set of spherical vector basis functions in a similar procedure. Explicit expressions for the electromagnetic fields, potentials, energies, and the related Green’s functions are derived for the spherical modes in both frequency domain and time domain. Based on the formulation, the relationships between the electromagnetic sources, the electromagnetic far fields, and the electromagnetic near fields are clearly revealed. In particular, a nonuniform transmission line model is developed for intuitively characterizing the total radiation process. The introduction of the cutoff radius and the cutoff mode degree provides a simple reference for determining the numbers of degrees of freedom of the fields associated with sources in a bounded region. Based on the theory, an efficient hybrid method for synthesizing antenna arrays with complex footprints is proposed and demonstrated with several numerical examples. Effective algorithms are also developed for reconstructing the radiating part of the current sources.

It was the celebrated Canadian physician and poet Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae that wrote the famous lines "In Flanders fields the poppies blow" as an opening to his famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’. His countrymen had shed their blood copiously in fighting the Germans on the Western Front and earned an outstanding reputation as fighting troops. Despite perhaps lacking a bit of ‘spit and polish’, they would be exchanged by no Allied commander for other troops.

Perspectives in Particles and Fields

Free Download Perspectives in Particles and Fields by Maurice Lévy, Jean-Louis Basdevant, David Speiser, Jacques Weyers, Maurice Jacob, Raymond Gastmans
English | 1985 | ISBN: 1475703716 | 598 Pages | PDF | 15.1 MB
The 1983 Cargese Summer Institute on Particles and Fields was organized by the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris (M. LEVY and J.-L. BASDEVANT), C.E.R.N. (M. JACOB), the Universite Catholique de Louvain (D. SPEISER and J. WEYERS), and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (R. GASTMANS). After 1975, 1977, 1979, and 1981, it was the fifth time they joined their efforts for organizing this Summer Insti tute. This school was characterized by simultaneous progress in the theory of elementary particles and by impressive experimental advances. On the theoretical front, one witnessed the new developments in lattice gauge theories, which explore the world of strongly interacting par ticles in a non-perturbative way, and progress in a better understan ding of the unity of all interactions based on supersymmetry. The experimentalists were ~roud to announce the discovery of the interme diate vector bosons; W- and ZO, at C.E.R.N., while physicists working with e+e- colliding beams continued to probe more deeply the validity of the theoretical models of strong, weak and electromagnetic inter actions.
