Post Genomic Perspectives in Modeling and Control of Breathing is comprised of the proceedings of the IXth Oxford Conference on Modeling and Control of Breathing, held September 13-16, 2003 in Paris, France. This publication is placed within the general framework of post-genomic neurobiology, pathology, and the precise example of the rhythmic respiratory neural assembly being used to understand how genetic networks have been selected and conserved in the vertebrate brain. Specific topics include: ion channels and synapses responsible for respiratory rhythmogenesis and plasticity; pre- and post-natal development of the respiratory rhythm; chemosensory transduction and chemo-afferent signalling. These valuable insights open new avenues as to why the genetic codes underlying a vital function such as breathing have been selected, conserved, or optimized during evolution – a major issue of post-genomic biology. This critical issue will be considered from both top-down and bottom-up integrative modeling standpoints, with a view to elucidating the functional genomics linking discrete molecules to the integrated system that regulates breathing.

Genomic Perl From Bioinformatics Basics to Working Code

Free Download Genomic Perl: From Bioinformatics Basics to Working Code By Rex A. Dwyer
2002 | 352 Pages | ISBN: 052180177X | PDF | 15 MB
In this introduction to computational molecular biology, Rex Dwyer explains many basic computational problems and gives concise, working programs to solve them in the Perl programming language. With minimal prerequisites, he covers the biological background for each problem, develops a model for the solution, and then introduces the Perl concepts needed to implement the solution. The chapters discuss pairwise and multiple sequence alignment, fast database searches for homologous sequences, protein motif identification, genome rearrangement, physical mapping, phylogeny reconstruction, satellite identification, sequence assembly, gene finding, and RNA secondary structure. Concrete examples and a step-by-step approach enable readers to grasp the computational and statistical methods.

English | 2023 | ISBN: 1071633880 | 441 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 55 MB
This volume discusses the latest online plant genomics and cytogenetic resources used by plant evolutionary biologists and plant breeders. The chapters in this book are organized into two parts. Part One looks at plant genomic databases, and covers topics such as plant phenomics and genomics research data repositories, InpactorDB, PlanTEenrichment, and PEATmoss, among others. Part Two looks at cytogenetics and chromosome-related databases, and covers resources such as the Plant DNA C-values database, the Delphineae Chromosome Database (DCDB), B-chrom, a Database on B-chromosomes, and the Plant Ribosomal DNA Database. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective databases and offers explicit directions on how to access and get the most of these resources.
