Each summer since 1996,algebraic geometers and algebraists in Norway have organised a summer school in Nordfjordeid, a small place in the western part of Norway. In addition to the beauty of the place, located between the mountains, close to the fjord and not far from the Norway’s largest glacier, a reason for going there is that Sophus Lie was born and spent his few first years in Nordfjordeid, so it has a flavour of both the exotic and pilgrimage. It is also convenient: the municipality of Eid has created a conference centre named after Sophus Lie, aimed at attracting activities to fillthe summer term of the local boarding school.

A Course in Modern Geometries

Free Download A Course in Modern Geometries by Judith N. Cederberg
English | PDF | 1989 | 243 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 19.3 MB
A Course in Modern Geometries is designed for a junior-senior level course for mathematics majors, including those who plan to teach in secondary school. Chapter 1 presents several finite geometries in an axiomatic framework. Chapter 2 introduces Euclid’s geometry and the basic ideas of non-Euclidean geometry. The synthetic approach of Chapters 1 – 2 is followed by the analytic treatment of transformations of the Euclidean plane in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 presents plane projective geometry both synthetically and analytically. The extensive use of matrix representations of groups of transformations in Chapters 3 – 4 reinforces ideas from linear algebra and serves as excellent preparation for a course in abstract algebra. Each chapter includes a list of suggested sources for applications and/or related topics.

Geometries of Anamorphic Illusions Landscape, Architecture, Contemporary Art and Design

Free Download Geometries of Anamorphic Illusions: Landscape, Architecture, Contemporary Art and Design
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031472454 | 184 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 99 MB
This book intends to focus exclusively on anamorphic experiments in contemporary art and design, leaving an in-depth historical examination of its Baroque season to other studies. Themes, languages and fields of application of anamorphosis in contemporary culture are critically analyzed to make the reader aware of the communicative potentiality of this kind of geometrical technique. The book also has the aim to teach the reader the most appropriate geometric techniques for each of them, in order to achieve the designed illusion. Each typology of anamorphosis is accompanied in this book by contemporary installations, a geometrical explanation by means of 3D models and didactic experiments carried on in collaboration with the students of the Department of Architecture in Naples.
