This book includes papers presented at the 14th International Conference "Economies of the Balkan and Eastern European Countries" (EBEEC), held in Florence, Italy, in May 2022. It sheds new light on the micro- and macroeconomic developments in the Eastern European and Balkan countries, taking into account also the broader regional and global factors influencing these developments. In particular, it includes the latest theoretical and empirical research and policy insights from Central and Southeastern Europe and presents new ideas on how to resolve economic problems, also generated by the pandemic, in the Balkan and Eastern European economies in a pan-European context. By examining how the decisions and the performance of economic, social, and political actors in the area are intertwined with wider events, also at a global level, the papers highlight the dynamic development in Eastern Europe and the Balkans region. Further, the book demonstrates how the area is evolving within the framework of European economic integration and the global effervescent economy.

Climate Global Change and Local Adaptation

Free Download Igor Linkov, Todd S. Bridges, "Climate: Global Change and Local Adaptation"
English | 2011 | pages: 590 | ISBN: 9400717695 | PDF | 13,7 mb
Rising sea levels and altered weather patterns are expected to significantly alter coastal and inland environments for humans, infrastructure and ecosystems. Potential land-use changes and population increases, coupled with uncertain predictions for sea level rise and storm frequency/intensity represent a significant planning challenge. While efforts to mitigate climate change continue, plans must be made to adapt to the risks that climate change poses to humans, infrastructure, and ecosystems alike. This book addresses integrated environmental assessment and management as part of the nexus of climate change adaptation. Risk analysis has emerged as a useful approach to guide assessment, communication and management of security risks. However, with respect to climate change, an integrated, multi-criteria, multi-hazard, risk-informed decision framework is desirable for evaluating adaptation strategies. The papers in Part 1 summarize societal and political needs for climate change adaptation. Part 2 includes papers summarizing the state of the art in climate change adaptation. Three further parts cover: the process of change in coastal regions, in inland regions, and, finally, the potential challenges to homeland security for national governments. Each of these parts reviews achievements, identifies gaps in current knowledge, and suggests research priorities.

Global Rhinoplasty A Multicultural Approach

Free Download Thieme: Global Rhinoplasty
by Ghavami, Ashkan

English | 2023 | ISBN: 162623891X | 396 pages | True PDF | 261.48 MB
A unique ethnocentric guide to rhinoplasty anatomy and techniques from globally renowned experts In order for a facial plastic surgeon to create a harmonious relationship between the face and nose, it’s paramount to consider each patient’s ethnicity and gender identity. Nasal anatomy varies widely in terms of proportion, thickness, size, and resilience and many of these differences are specific to ethnicity. Although rhinoplasty has been available for many decades, applying Caucasian rhinoplasty guidelines to Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Black, and Asian patients increases the risk of adverse outcomes and the need for multiple or revision surgeries. Global A Multicultural Approach edited by world-renowned facial plastic surgeons Ashkan Ghavami, Sam P. Most, and Nazim Cerkes fills a gap in the literature, providing in-depth coverage of non-Caucasian nasal anatomy and rhinoplasty approaches for each subtype. The textbook includes 39 chapters and is organized in five Principles, Anatomical Considerations, Primary Rhinoplasty, Secondary Rhinoplasty, and Special Considerations. Seventeen chapters cover anatomical and surgical techniques specific to the skin and soft tissue, dorsum, nasal tip, and nostrils for each ethnic group. Each of the 16 rhinoplasty chapters features expert commentary from the editors. The text concludes with discussion of preservation rhinoplasty, the use of fillers for nonsurgical and revision surgeries, evaluating psychosocial factors in patients seeking rhinoplasty surgery, and the role of marketing and social media in global practice. Throughout the book, authors share firsthand insights on potential pitfalls and strategies to prevent complications. Key Highlights This must-have resource will help facial plastic surgeons significantly improve pre-surgical, surgical, and postoperative phases of rhinoplasty in Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Black, and Asian patients. Birth of the Geopolitical Age Global Frontiers and the Making of Modern China

Free Download Birth of the Geopolitical Age
by Wu, Shellen Xiao;

English | 2023 | ISBN: 1503636844 | 330 pages | True PDF | 19.42 MB
From the 1850s until the mid-twentieth century, a period marked by global conflicts and anxiety about dwindling resources and closing opportunities after decades of expansion, the frontier became a mirror for historically and geographically specific hopes and fears. From Asia to Europe and the Americas, countries around the world engaged with new interpretations of empire and the deployment of science and technology to aid frontier development in extreme environments. Through a century of political turmoil and war, China nevertheless is the only nation to successfully navigate the twentieth century with its imperial territorial expanse largely intact. In Birth of the Geopolitical Age , Shellen Xiao Wu demonstrates how global examples of frontier settlements refracted through China’s unique history and informed the making of the modern Chinese state. Wu weaves a narrative that moves through time and space, the lives of individuals, and empires’ rise and fall and rebirth, to show how the subsequent reshaping of Chinese geopolitical ambitions in the twentieth century, and the global transformation of frontiers into colonial laboratories, continues to reorder global power dynamics in East Asia and the wider world to this day.
