Liutex and Third Generation of Vortex Identification

Free Download Liutex and Third Generation of Vortex Identification: Workshop from Aerospace and Aeronautics World Forum 2021 by Yiqian Wang, Yisheng Gao, Chaoqun Liu
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 |421 Pages | ISBN : 9811989540 | 154.9 MB
This proceedings highlights the applications of the newly introduced physical quantity Liutex in hydrodynamics and aerodynamics. Liutex is used to represent the fascinating rotational motion of fluids, i.e., the vortex. Ubiquitously seen in nature and engineering applications, the definition of vortices has been elusive. The Liutex vector provides a unique and systematic description of vortices. The proceedings collects papers presented in the invited workshop "Liutex and Third Generation of Vortex Identification for Engineering Applications" from Aerospace and Aeronautics World Forum 2021. The papers in this book cover both the theoretical aspects of Liutex and many applications in hydrodynamics and aerodynamics. The proceedings is a good reference for researchers in fluid mechanics who are interested in learning about the wide scope of applications of Liutex and using it to develop a new understanding of their research subjects.

Galaxy Merger Identification Methods, and Investigations of the Role of Mergers in Galaxy Evolution

Free Download Galaxy Merger Identification Methods, and Investigations of the Role of Mergers in Galaxy Evolution
English | 2024 | ISBN: 9819787343 | 265 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 80 MB
This book offers new findings on the impact of galaxy mergers on galaxy evolution and related processes. Galaxies are astronomical objects composed of stars, gas, and dark matter. The main pathway for galaxy evolution in the currently accepted model for structure growth is through interactions and mergers, or the process in which multiple galaxies interact, collide, and end up as one larger galaxy. Galaxy interactions and mergers are also considered to drive various processes pertaining to galaxy evolution, such as star formation, active galactic nuclei (AGN) activity, and chemical evolution. As such, not only are merging galaxy systems important to understand galaxy structure growth in a cosmological context, they are also unique laboratories to study evolutionary processes taking place in galaxies. However, despite their importance, the relative role of galaxy mergers on galaxy evolution is still heavily contested. One reason for this is difficulty in identifying merger galaxies in observational data. Many different methods have been adopted for merger galaxy identification, but none of them are perfect. Moreover, the use of differing selection methods can result in widely different samples, which can alter statistical results. As such, a novel, robust method for merger identification is required to deepen our understanding of galaxy mergers. In this book, we introduce new methods to identify galaxy mergers from observational data. The first method combines the use of visual identification-both of optical and kinematic images-with spectroscopic pair identification. The second is machine learning based, using a training method called fine-tuning, an application of transfer learning. A pre-trained model on galaxy images is further fine-tuned using a sample of synthetic galaxy images, to make a classifier for merger identification. Using samples identified by our methods, the author conducts three studies: the impact of mergers on galaxy chemical evolution, the effect of galaxy local environment on merging activity, and the connection between mergers and AGN activity. This book is mainly intended for astrophysicists, particularly those studying galaxies, however is open for all to read.

Dynamics of Identification and Conflict Anthropological Encounters

Free Download Markus Virgil Hoehne, "Dynamics of Identification and Conflict: Anthropological Encounters"
English | ISBN: 1800736754 | 2022 | 413 pages | PDF | 12 MB
Dealing with the dynamics of identification and conflict, this book uses theoretical orientations ranging from political ecology to rational choice theory, interpretive approaches, Marxism and multiscalar analysis. Case studies set in Africa, Europe and Central Asia are grouped in three sections devoted to pastoralism, identity and migration. What connects all of these anthropological explorations is a close focus on processes of identification and conflict at the level of particular actors in relation to the behaviour of large aggregates of people and to systemic conditions.

Multimodal Biometric Identification System

Free Download Multimodal Biometric Identification System by Sampada Dhole, Vinayak Bairagi
English | November 12, 2024 | ISBN: 1032660589 | 142 pages | MOBI | 9.51 Mb
This book presents a novel method of multimodal biometric fusion using a random selection of biometrics, which covers a new method of feature extraction, a new framework of sensor-level and feature-level fusion. Most of the biometric systems presently use unimodal systems, which have several limitations. Multimodal systems can increase the matching accuracy of a recognition system. This monograph shows how the problems of unimodal systems can be dealt with efficiently, and focuses on multimodal biometric identification and sensor-level, feature-level fusion. It discusses fusion in biometric systems to improve performance.

Chemical Identification and its Quality Assurance

Free Download Chemical Identification and its Quality Assurance By Boris L. Milman (auth.)
2011 | 281 Pages | ISBN: 3642153607 | PDF | 4 MB
This is the first book to show how to apply the principles of quality assurance to the identification of analytes (qualitative chemical analysis). After presenting the principles of identification and metrological basics, the author focuses on the reliability and the errors of chemical identification. This is then applied to practical examples such as EPA methods, EU, FDA, or WADA regulations. Two whole chapters are devoted to the analysis of unknowns and identification of samples such as foodstuffs or oil pollutions. Essential reading for researchers and professionals dealing with the identification of chemical compounds and the reliability of chemical analysis.
