Free Download Images for a generation doomed : the films and career of Gregg Araki By Araki, Gregg; Hart, Kylo-Patrick R.; Araki, Gregg
2009 | 133 Pages | ISBN: 0739139975 | PDF | 4 MB
Over the past two decades, independent director Gregg Araki has emerged as one of the most intriguing auteurs of contemporary U.S. cinema. A leading figure of the New Queer Cinema movement of the early 1990s, Araki is known for his innovative, eye-opening, and at-times-controversial films aimed primarily at queer audiences. Images for a Generation Doomed: The Films and Career of Gregg Araki explores the films and career trajectory to date of this New Queer Cinema pioneer. Offering in-depth analyses of films such as The Living End, Totally F***ed Up, The Doom Generation, Nowhere, and Splendor, Kylo-Patrick R. Hart demonstrates how, over the course of the 1990s, the director’s cinematic offerings became increasingly devoid of their early subversive potential. Hart goes on to argue that as the 1990s progressed, Araki’s films were largely irrelevant to the cultural project of providing groundbreaking on-screen representations of non-heterosexual individuals living in the age of AIDS. However, Hart sees Mysterious Skin as evidence of Araki’s successful attempt at reestablishing his cinematic and cultural relevancy in relation to the approaches and subject matter of contemporary queer cinema in the new millennium

Glendale (Images of America)

Free Download Ralph F. Brady, "Glendale (Images of America)"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 1467122300, 153167366X | EPUB | pages: 128 | 65.6 mb
Glendale, New York, lies just six miles from the center of the bustling metropolis of New York City but has always managed to retain its rural charm since its beginning. Taking its name from Glendale, Ohio, the town began with the unlikely occurrence of a piece of land changing hands in payment of a debt in the mid-1800s. Development of the land was slow in comparison to the surrounding communities, and many of the unoccupied parcels were bought up by people interested in building picnic parks and other types of recreational areas. Around that same time, a New York state law banned the construction of any more cemeteries in Manhattan, so Glendale’s available land became equally attractive for this type of development. Glendale takes a journey back in time to the picnic parks, German biergartens, and early industries that took this community far from its origins as a farming town.

Esoteric Images Decoding the Late Herat School of Painting

Free Download Tawfiq Daadli, "Esoteric Images: Decoding the Late Herat School of Painting "
English | ISBN: 9004398007 | 2019 | 192 pages | PDF | 13 MB
In Esoteric Images: Decoding the Late Herat School of Painting Tawfiq Daʿadli decodes the pictorial language which flourished in the city of Herat, modern Afghanistan, under the rule of the last Timurid ruler, Sultan Husayn Bayqara (r.1469-1506). This study focuses on one illustrated manuscript of a poem entitled Khamsa by the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi, kept in the British Library under code Or.6810. Tawfiq Daʿadli decodes the paintings, reveals the syntax behind them and thus deciphers the message of the whole manuscript. The book combines scholarly efforts to interpret theological-political lessons embedded in one of the foremost Persian schools of art against the background of the court dynamic of an influential medieval power in its final years.

Conflicting Images

Free Download Conflicting Images: Histories of War Photography in the News
English | 2024 | ISBN: 0415618320 | 291 Pages | PDF (True) | 19 MB
Stuart Allan and Tom Allbeson critically explore diverse genres of war photography across a broad historical sweep, encompassing events from the Crimean War (1853-56) and the Civil War in the United States (1861-65) up to and including conflicts unfolding in Syria and Ukraine. This book reflects on the relevance of different types of warfare to visual reporting, from colonial conquest via trench warfare and aerial bombardment, to the ideological dimensions of the Cold War, and ’embedding’ and ‘winning hearts and minds’ during the ‘War on Terror’ and its aftermath. In pinpointing illustrative examples, the authors examine changing dynamics of production, dissemination, and public engagement. Readers will come to understand how current efforts to rethink the future of war photography in a digital age can benefit from a close and careful consideration of war photography’s origins, early development, and gradual, uneven transformation over the years. Conflicting Images aims to invigorate ongoing enquires and inspire new, alternative trajectories for future research and practice.

Barbarous dissonance and images of voice in Milton’s epics

Free Download Barbarous dissonance and images of voice in Milton’s epics By Sauer, Elizabeth M.; Milton, John
1996 | 213 Pages | ISBN: 0773514287 | PDF | 13 MB
Sauer investigates the texts’ discursive practices and the politics of their orchestration of voice exploring the ways in which Milton’s multivocal poems interrogated dominant structures of authority in the seventeenth century and constructed in their place a community of voices characterized by dissonances. She incorporates different critical responses to Milton’s texts into her argument as a way of contextualizing her own historically engaged approach. By injecting concepts such as multiple narrators and genres, open forms, strategic deferrals, and the exchanges between the poetic voices and discourses of the early modern period, Sauer tells us something about how the poems spoke to their own time as well as how they may be recuperated to speak to ours
