First published in 1920, this fascinating treatise by renowned English economist John Atkinson Hobson looks at the subject of internationalism, exploring the moral factors and issues related to it as well as the ramifications of international cooperation in the light of the cessation of the First World War. This detailed treatise will appeal to those with an interest in world politics and economics, especially that of Europe and the aftermath of The Great War. John Atkinson Hobson (1858 – 1940) was an English social scientist and economist most famous for his work on imperialism-which notably had an influence on Vladimir Lenin-as well as his theory of underconsumption. His early work also questioned the classical theory of rent and predicted the Neoclassical "marginal productivity" theory of distribution. Other notable works by this author include: "Evolution of Modern Capitalism" (1894), "Problem of the Unemployed" (1896), and "John Ruskin: Social Reformer" (1898). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition together with an excerpt from "Imperialism, The Highest Stage of Capitalism" by V. I. Lenin.

British liberal internationalism, 1880-1930 Making progress

Free Download Casper Sylvest, "British liberal internationalism, 1880-1930: Making progress?"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 0719079098 | PDF | pages: 289 | 2.3 mb
This book explores the development, character, and legacy of the ideology of liberal internationalism in late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Britain. Liberal internationalism provided a powerful way of theorising and imagining international relations, and it dominated well-informed political discourse at a time when Britain was the most powerful country in the world. Its proponents focused on securing progress, generating order and enacting justice in international affairs. Liberal internationalism united a diverse group of intellectuals and public figures, and it left a lasting legacy in the twentieth century. This book elucidates the roots, trajectory, and diversity of liberal internationalism, focusing in particular on three intellectual languages – international law, philosophy and history – through which it was promulgated. Finally, it traces the impact of these ideas across the defining moment of the First World War. The liberal internationalist vision of the late-nineteenth century remained popular well into the twentieth century and forms an important backdrop to the development of the academic study of International Relations in Britain.

Brent Scowcroft Internationalism and Post-Vietnam War American Foreign Policy

Free Download David F. Schmitz Robert Allen Skotheim Cha, "Brent Scowcroft: Internationalism and Post-Vietnam War American Foreign Policy "
English | ISBN: 0742570401 | 2011 | 232 pages | EPUB | 972 KB
As National Security Advisor to President Gerald Ford, advisor to President Ronald Reagan, and as National Security Advisor to President George H. W. Bush, Brent Scowcroft was at the center of the ongoing debate over how to shape American foreign policy in the post-war world. As David F. Schmitz makes clear in his new biography, Scowcroft was a realist in his outlook on American foreign policy and an heir to the Cold War internationalism that had shaped that policy since 1945. During his most important service, as George H. W. Bush’s national security advisor, Scowcroft sought to work with like-minded Republicans and Democrats to construct a post-Cold War foreign policy that would provide consistency and stability to American policymaking in a rapidly changing international environment, defend the internationalist position from challenges and criticisms, and buffer the conduct of diplomacy from the turbulence of domestic politics. The type of bi-partisan cooperation and internationalism that marked the pre-Vietnam War years served as Scowcroft’s guide to how to defend American interests and promote U.S. values and institutions globally. While not always successful, Scowcroft provided a consistent internationalist voice in the midst of change.

The authors analyze and discuss Internationalism from different professional perspectives, against different cultural backgrounds, as well as in relation to diverse reference groups to widen the understanding of Internationalism as a social interaction in the Olympic Movement. They also aim at establishing the intersections and equal normative principles of "Internationalism" within the different cultural and institutional fields. This book is valuable reading for academics, practitioners, and policy makers in the field of sport sociology and Olympic studies.

English | 2016 | pages: 288 | ISBN: 0231180241, 023118025X | EPUB | 1,9 mb
In the years following World War I, the "international" emerged as a distinct scale of political and cultural focus. Internationalisms proliferated in kind as writers and thinkers sought to imagine modes of cooperation that would balance transnational solidarities with national sovereignty. While so-called political realists across the twentieth century have regarded such attempts as wishful thinking, Aarthi Vadde argues that the negotiation of wishing and thinking is at the very heart of internationalism. In Chimeras of Form, she shows why modernist literary form is essential to understanding the aspirational and analytical force of internationalism in and beyond Europe.
