In 1234, four mendicant friars arrived in the Byzantine city of Nicaea to discuss the possibility of a union between the Greek and Roman Churches. The controversy over the specific differences in both doctrine and practice had taken on a new urgency in the thirteenth century. The Fourth Crusade in 1204 placed the Byzantine capital of Constantinople under Latin control, creating an atmosphere of nearly continuous conflict, and yet the two sides agreed to meet in hopes of a peaceful settlement.

Big Data Shocks An Introduction to Big Data for Librarians and Information Professionals (LITA Guides)

Free Download Big Data Shocks: An Introduction to Big Data for Librarians and Information Professionals (LITA Guides) by Andrew Weiss
English | March 15, 2018 | ISBN: 1538103222 | 218 pages | PDF | 41 Mb
"Big data," as it has become known in business and information technology circles, has the potential to improve our knowledge about human behavior, and to help us gain insight into the ways in which we organize ourselves, our cultures, and our external and internal lives. Libraries stand at the center of the information world, both facilitating and contributing to this flood as well as helping to shape and channel it to specific purposes. But all technologies come with a price. Where the tool can serve a purpose, it can also change the user’s behavior to fit the purposes of the tool. Big Data Shocks: An Introduction to Big Data for Librarians and Information Professionals examines the roots of big data, the current climate and rising stars in this world. The book explores the issues raised by big data and discusses theoretical as well as practical approaches to managing information whose scope exists beyond the human scale.

A Pen and Paper Introduction to Statistics

Free Download A Pen and Paper Introduction to Statistics by Antonio Marco
English | December 29, 2023 | ISBN: 1032505109 | 160 pages | PDF | 7.22 Mb
Statistics is central in the biosciences, social sciences and other disciplines, yet many students often struggle to learn how to perform statistical tests, and to understand how and why statistical tests work. Although there are many approaches to teaching statistics, a common framework exists between them: starting with probability and distributions, then sampling from distribution and descriptive statistics and later introducing both simple and complex statistical tests, typically ending with regression analysis (linear models).

Multilateral Institutions A Critical Introduction

Free Download Desmond McNeill, "Multilateral Institutions: A Critical Introduction"
English | 2003 | pages: 200 | ISBN: 0745319203, 0745319211 | PDF | 0,7 mb
In recent years, a great deal of public attention has been focussed on multilateral institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and WTO. This book offers students, practitioners and activists a critical guide to these and other major institutions – the Regional Development Banks and UNDP – that make up the multilateral development system. It analyses how they operate with respect to financing and lending, the various roles that they play, and related changes in their policy concerns – such as structural adjustment, sustainable development, and governance. The emphasis is on politics within and also between multilateral institutions, analysing the relations – both competitive and collaborative – between, for example, the World Bank and UNDP. NGOs are also shown to be important actors, and the role they have played in recent years is critically assessed. The book concludes with some emerging trends: the ‘privatisation’ of the system, regionalisation, and ‘the politics of protest’. Bøås and McNeill do not simply take the policies of multilateral institutions at face value, but ask how and why these policies came into existence. They seek to promote critical, but informed, engagement both with the member states of multilateral institutions and the institutions themselves.

Introduction to Electrospinning and Nanofiber

Free Download Introduction to Electrospinning and Nanofiber
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031743091 | 192 Pages | PDF (True) | 8 MB
The target audience of this is senior undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and engineering practitioners who are about to enter or entering the fields of nanofiber, nanofiber materials, electrospinning, and the like. This book is expected to prepare the readers, rather than providing the details of any specifics. This type of book is necessary because many researchers in training need basics to jump start the projects related to the research topics above. They also need to understand the potential applications to be direct their research. However, this type of book is missing, regardless of many handbooks or books focused on a specific field. The first half of the book introduces the basics of electrospinning and nanofiber technologies, leading the readers into the field step by step. It is expected to set a solid foundation for researchers in training (e.g. graduate students) before the jump into the particular research project (e.g. PhD thesis project). The contents are ordered such way that junior researchers normally follow. This book can also be used as a general reference book for those who are interested in the subjects. Each chapter is written as independent as possible, with references listed at the end of the chapter. Readers who can dig deep into the field after reading the chapters and the references listed.
