This trip was always intended to be a journey, joining the dots. Cycling from places I have been before, to places I’ve never been. Revisiting special places, and finding new special places. Seeing for myself what others have talked about, places that previously I’ve only seen from 30,000 feet, places I’ve read about, or dreamed of visiting. The initial plan involved visiting 64 countries over four years and eight months. Ju said it was too long. Cut it in half. So, there I was, on a 900 day, 50,000km, adventure, joining the dots in 41 countries.

Joining the Conversation Writing in College and Beyond

Free Download Joining the Conversation: Writing in College and Beyond By Mike Palmquist
2010 | 752 Pages | ISBN: 0312412150 | PDF | 18 MB
With the success of The Bedford Researcher, Mike Palmquist has earned a devoted following of teachers and students who appreciate his accessible approach to the process of inquiry-based writing. Now he brings his proven methodology and friendly tone to Joining the Conversation. While students may know how to send text messages, search for images, and read the news online all at the same time, they don’t necessarily know how to juggle the skills they need to engage readers and compose a meaningful contribution to an academic conversation. Meeting students where they are – working online and collaboratively – Joining the Conversation embraces the new realities of writing, without sacrificing the support that students need as they write for college and beyond.

Joining the resistance

Free Download Joining the resistance By Gilligan, Carol
2011 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 0745651690 | PDF | 1 MB
In her new book Joining the Resistance Carol Gilligan reflects on the evolution of her thinking and shows how her key ideas were interwoven with her own life experiences. Her work began with the question of voice: who is speaking to whom, in what body, telling what stories about which relationships? By listening carefully she heard a voice that had been held in silence, and in the process realized the extent to which we – both women and men – had been telling false stories about ourselves.-✅Publisher description.

Joining Complexity Science and Social Simulation for Innovation Policy

Free Download Andreas Pyka Petra Ahrweiler, Nigel Gilbert, "Joining Complexity Science and Social Simulation for Innovation Policy"
English | ISBN: 144388460X | 2016 | 410 pages | PDF | 6 MB
This book explores how complexity science and social simulation can be used to improve and inform policy-making in both research and innovation. Beginning with an introduction to conceptual definitions of complexity science and social simulation, the book demonstrates the validity of the underlying integrated research framework used throughout. It is then divided into two parts, with the first investigating the effects and impacts of policy making on the structure, composition and outputs of research and innovation networks using the agent-based SKIN platform (Simulating Knowledge Dynamics in Innovation Networks,http://cress.soc.surrey.ac.uk/SKIN/). The second half of the book discusses a research initiative funded by the Irish government focusing on innovation policy simulation for economic recovery. This consists of empirical research on Irish research and innovation networks, and SKIN-based simulations of technology transfer issues and the commercialization of research in areas with high potential for innovation and economic growth. The book concludes with reflections on the maturity and utility of an approach combining complexity science and social simulation for research and innovation policy. Joining Complexity Science and Social Simulation for Innovation Policy will be of particular interest to scientists concerned with innovation and complex systems, including economists, sociologists, and complexity researchers, as well as students and practitioners, such as innovation policymakers and innovation business managers.

Joining Metals (Crowood Metalworking Guides)

Free Download Joining Metals (Crowood Metalworking Guides) by Henry Del Tindell
English | July 19, 2022 | ISBN: 0719840554 | 424 pages | PDF | 25 Mb
Joining metals is a fundamental process used in all aspects of modern life. It is vital wherever metals are used, which is just about everywhere. Small or large, simple or complex – no mode of transport or method of construction would be possible without the sound understanding of its theory and practice. Written for the home metalworker or model engineer, this book discusses the various methods of joining metals, including strength, testing and applications, and includes useful lessons from historical failures including the sinking of the Titanic, the Flixborough explosion, the capsize of the Alexander L. Keilland offshore platform, the Hyatt Hotel elevated walkway collapse and the Markham Colliery lift bolt failure. With over 100 diagrams and over 200 photographs, this book examines: Mechanical joining: bolting, riveting, clamping – Metallurgical joining: welding, brazing, soldering – Chemical joining: bonding difficult metals – Strength of joints: choice and analysis – Failure of metals and joints: stress, fatigue, corrosion – Design: use of theory and codes to avoid failure, and finally – Testing of metals and joints: destructive and non-destructive (NDT).
