In the winter of 2003 I asked my Grandmother to teach me how to knit. I took to it quickly and began knitting my own sweaters and accessories almost immediately. I started teaching beginner knitting at local yarn shops and art spaces a few years later. I also did yarn bombing, exhibited in galleries, sold my hand-knit accessories at local boutiques, and worked part time at local yarn shops helping people with their own knit projects. It wasn’t until the spring of 2013, after I had my first son, that I decided to try my hand at pattern writing in an effort to work from home.

Knitting Science, Technology, Process and Materials A Sustainable Approach (Textile Science and Clothing Technology)

Free Download Knitting Science, Technology, Process and Materials: A Sustainable Approach (Textile Science and Clothing Technology) by Hafsa Jamshaid, Rajesh Mishra
English | January 23, 2024 | ISBN: 3031449266 | 211 pages | MOBI | 18 Mb
This volume explains knitting technology in an easily-comprehensible and user-friendly manner. The manufacturing of a cost-effective quality product requires careful planning and thorough knowledge of the product as well as production technology. To achieve the desired functional properties in fabric, the relationship between the raw materials, process and finished product is very important. Knitting has been and remains an important textile technique due to the properties of knitted fabric such as elasticity, stretchability, and comfort. Despite the prominence of knitwear, there has been limited data regarding mechanics of weft knitted fabric and effect of structures on physical, mechanical and comfort properties. This book is an attempt to fill that gap. The book provides knowledge about fabric manufacturing techniques, weft knitting structure, and methods of evaluating knitted fabrics and their applications in technical textiles. It also discusses different types of yarn and their manufacturing processes. Testing and quality control in industrial practice as well as management of a fabric dyeing house are also covered.

Free Download Knitalong: Celebrating the Tradition of Knitting Together By Larissa Golden Brown, Martin John Brown
2008 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 1584796650 | EPUB | 4 MB
The immensely popular knitalong—an organized event where people knit together for a common goal—has only grown with the explosion of the Internet. Yesterday’s wartime Red Cross sock drives have evolved into today’s meet-ups at locales as diverse as cafes, state fairs, and major league ballparks, as well as international online gatherings; in fact, at any given time tens of thousands of people worldwide are involved in knitalongs, organized around a particular yarn, a favorite social cause, an intriguing project, a special event, or myriad other themes.Authors Larissa Brown and Martin John Brown present an inspiring look at centuries of people knitting together, and why knitters find the interaction so meaningful and worthwhile. Along the way, they offer 20 projects especially suited for different types of knitalongs. The Barn Raising Quilt and the Traveling Scarf, for instance, call on individual knitters to collaborate on a single project; while the Pinwheel Blanket and the Meathead Hat encourage a community of knitters to improvise on the same pattern to come up with a variety of results. Also included is essential information about finding, joining, and starting knitalongs.Hundreds of knitters participated in the knitalongs hosted by the authors as part of their research, and this book will inspire thousands more to get involved in the knitalong movement. The only book that celebrates this tradition of community and purpose, Knitalong is sure to have a powerful impact.
