Few concerns preoccupy contemporary progressive thought as much as the issue of how to achieve a sustainable human society. The problems impeding this goal include those of how to arrest induced global environmental change (GEC), persistent disagreements about the contribution of economic activities to GEC and further differences in views on how these activities can be reformed in order to reduce the rate of change and thus to mitigate threats to much life on Earth.

The New Horizon of China’s Economic Law Theory

Free Download Shouwen Zhang, "The New Horizon of China’s Economic Law Theory"
English | 2020 | pages: 324 | ISBN: 9811588260 | PDF | 2,5 mb
This book presents the development and reformation of economic law in China and explores the "three relationships" between the government and market, between reform and rule of law, and between the constitution and economic law. On this basis, it subsequently focuses on development theory, distribution theory, risk theory and crisis theory. Further, it addresses effective development, fair distribution, and prevention and resolution of related risks and crises, which are important functions of economic law. In order to achieve the above functions and objectives, the book argues, we must vigorously promote the integration of rule of law in economic law, and constantly refine the theory of economic rule of law employed in China. The book demonstrates that no matter how the "three major relationships" are adjusted or the relevant systems are reformed – i.e., regarding the implementation of the concept of coordinated development or the optimization of economic structures; the solution of distribution problems or the improvement of distribution systems; the prevention of risks or the response to crises – any such changes depend on economic rule of law. The above-mentioned theoretical discussion presents a "new horizon" of contemporary Chinese economic law theory, which will be of great value to the future development of economic law theory.

Rights and Decisions Formal Models of Law and Liberalism

Free Download Rights and Decisions: Formal Models of Law and Liberalism By Martin van Hees (auth.)
1995 | 196 Pages | ISBN: 9048146259 | PDF | 9 MB
The game-theoretic analysis of rights forms a rapidly growing field of study to which this book makes an important contribution. Van Hees combines the game-theoretic approach with the results and tools from logic, in particular from the logic of norms. The resulting synthesis between logic and game theory provides a firm foundation for the game-theoretic approach. The analysis shows how different types of right are related to the strategic opportunities of individuals and of groups of individuals. Furthermore, the book makes an important contribution to the theory of liberalism, in particular to the study of the so-called `liberal paradoxes’. It demonstrates how the paradoxes resurface in the new decision-theoretic framework. In fact, they not only do so at the level of `ordinary’ decision making, but also at the level of constitutional decision making.
