Etymological Dictionary of the Hittite Inherited Lexicon

Free Download Alwin Kloekhorst, "Etymological Dictionary of the Hittite Inherited Lexicon"
English | 2007 | ISBN: 9004160922 | PDF | pages: 1171 | 9.1 mb
Hittite is the oldest attested Indo-European language and therefore of paramount importance for comparative Indo-European linguistics. Although in the last few decades our knowledge of the synchronic and historical linguistics of Hittite has profoundly increased, these new insights have not been systematically applied to the whole Hittite material. This book fills this gap by, for the first time, providing an etymological dictionary of the entire Hittite lexicon of Indo-European origin in which all words are treated in a coherent way. Furthermore, it provides a thorough description of the synchronic phonological system of Hittite as well as a comprehensive study of the Hittite historical morphology and phonology. The result is a monumental handbook that will form an indispensable tool for Indo-Europeanists and Hittitologists alike.

Advances in Generative Lexicon Theory

Free Download Advances in Generative Lexicon Theory By James Pustejovsky, Pierrette Bouillon (auth.), James Pustejovsky, Pierrette Bouillon, Hitoshi Isahara, Kyoko Kanzaki, Chungmin Lee (eds.)
2013 | 488 Pages | ISBN: 9400751885 | PDF | 5 MB
This collection of papers takes linguists to the leading edge of techniques in generative lexicon theory, the linguistic composition methodology that arose from the imperative to provide a compositional semantics for the contextual modifications in meaning that emerge in real linguistic usage. Today’s growing shift towards distributed compositional analyses evinces the applicability of GL theory, and the contributions to this volume, presented at three international workshops (GL-2003, GL-2005 and GL-2007) address the relationship between compositionality in language and the mechanisms of selection in grammar that are necessary to maintain this property. The core unresolved issues in compositionality, relating to the interpretation of context and the mechanisms of selection, are treated from varying perspectives within GL theory, including its basic theoretical mechanisms and its analytical viewpoint on linguistic phenomena.

Mountain Lexicon A Corpus of Montology and Innovation

Free Download Mountain Lexicon: A Corpus of Montology and Innovation
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031648838 | 264 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 45 MB
This book is the second volume in a series on montology dedicated to the transdisciplinary reflection of mountain research, considering the diversity of views on mountains and their problemata in the context of rapid technological development and unprecedented accumulation and dissemination of information around the world. The necessity for a new orderly and structured lexicon arose from the need to critically reassess the colonial past in the development of mountain territories, the development of a new and alternative understanding of mountain topics in the light of decolonized epistemology. The creation of coordinated and ordered terms for the main parts of mountain research creates the basis for an unorthodox understanding of the ontology of mountains and helps to better understand the complex cultural and natural essence of mountain socio-ecological systems. At the same time, a local episteme of mountains, considering local values, small scales, and vernacular visions are of particular importance, which must be taken into account in the current terminology.

A revised edition of the first Latte volume by Cunningham (SGLG 11/1, 2017) followed and is now completed by the revised edition of vol. 2, which also provides a more complete record of the readings of the unique manuscript, cites parallels from related works in the current editions, and takes account of the scholarship of the intervening years.
