This book contains BEAUTIFUL line-art illustrations of a host of Lockheed aircraft, past and present. The artwork was done by Mike Badrocke who is a recognized master at this craft. Bill Gunston is also a master aviation writer. Together they’ve produced a very beautiful book for the aviation enthusiast. You’ll see cutaways of the A-12, C-5, F-16, F-117, U-2, and even the F-22. There are civil aircraft cutaways such as the Constellation and L-1011. Helicopters, WW2 aircraft and before are all represented. It’s a wonderful book to help you "explore" the inner workings of these aircraft, and nobody does it better than Badrocke.

L-1011 TriStar and The Lockheed Story

Free Download Douglas J. Ingells – L-1011 TriStar and The Lockheed Story
Aero ✅Publishers | 1973 | ISBN: 0816866503 | English | 264 pages | PDF | 175.55 MB
History of Loughead/Lockheed from the very beginning to ’72/’73. Similar to other Ingells-authored works, the book title focuses on the "biggest" plane made by the company but the actual content covers a very wide range of aeroplanes, and touches on the missiles, helicopters, submarines, and spacecraft built by Lockheed since the beginning in the 1920s to 1973, with the then lastest product, the L-1011 Tristar. There is some info on the manufacturers of the engines powering the various planes; with special attention to the situation at Rolls-Royce which had financial and political problems that affected Lockheed and the L-1011. The author also describes the factories the planes were made in. No story about Lockheed would be complete without a few SR-71 photos and text; this book also provides information on the U-2 (airplane, not rock band) and A-12, rocket planes, and the "parasite" Goblin, an experiment in carrying a small fighter plane on a huge bomber. Executive business jets, fighters, bombers, large and small airliners…it’s in here.

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning The Definitive Story of Lockheed’s P-38 Fighter (2024)

Free Download Warren M. Bodie – The Lockheed P-38 Lightning: The Definitive Story of Lockheed’s P-38 Fighter
Widewing Publications | 1991 | ISBN: 0962935905 | English | 280 pages | PDF | 160.16 MB
Warren Bodie’s book is a marvel of completeness, including photos of all series and one-offs, and favorably presents what was arguably the best all-around fighter of World War Two. All the subjective criticisms of the famous Lockheed twin-boom plane are clearly discussed in their proper historical context, with ample support from the main historical actors. The book also demonstrates that the P-38, as a good child of Clarence "Kelly" Johnson’s genius, was several years ahead of its time both in its technology and in the capacity of air strategists and pilots to fully exploit the advances it had over current aviation designs, as well as to foresee its potential. For example, the P-51 Mustang was a pig (and used the same Allison engine of the P-38) before being refitted with the famous Rolls-Royce Merlin engine which made it the masterpiece we know; just imagine a P-38 with two Merlins, something that never happened but that could have dramatically changed the air war before 1944 in all theaters. Bodie demonstrates that the P-38 was already the long-range fighter the Allies needed a couple of years before the P-51D and P-47N, but was stupidly underused and underdeveloped; its firepower was overwhelming and almost unparalleled throughout the war; it could turn with any enemy fighter and outrun most of them and, finally, having another engine was a priceless safeguard in the long flights over the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean. Highly recommended reading about my favorite fighter plane.
