In real-life conflict resolution situations, one size does not fit all. Just as a mechanic does not fix every car with the same tool, the conflict resolution practitioner cannot hope to resolve every dispute using the same technique.

Disease Maps Epidemics on the Ground

Free Download Tom Koch, "Disease Maps: Epidemics on the Ground"
English | 2011 | pages: 344 | ISBN: 0226449351 | PDF | 16,3 mb
In the seventeenth century, a map of the plague suggested a radical idea-that the disease was carried and spread by humans. In the nineteenth century, maps of cholera cases were used to prove its waterborne nature. More recently, maps charting the swine flu pandemic caused worldwide panic and sent shockwaves through the medical community. In Disease Maps, Tom Koch contends that to understand epidemics and their history we need to think about maps of varying scale, from the individual body to shared symptoms evidenced across cities, nations, and the world.

th These proceedings contain refereed papers presented at the 7 WSOM held at the Casa Monica Hotel, St. Augustine, Florida, June 8-10, 2009. We designed the wo- shop to serve as a regular forum for researchers in academia and industry who are interested in the exciting field of self-organizing maps (SOM). The program includes excellent examples of the use of SOM in many areas of social sciences, economics, computational biology, engineering, time series analysis, data visualization and c- puter science as well a vibrant set of theoretical papers that keep pushing the envelope of the original SOM. Our deep appreciation is extended to Teuvo Kohonen and Ping Li for the plenary talks and Amaury Lendasse for the organization of the special sessions. Our sincere thanks go to the members of the Technical Committee and other reviewers for their excellent and timely reviews, and above all to the authors whose contributions made this workshop possible. Special thanks go to Julie Veal for her dedication and hard work in coordinating the many details necessary to put together the program and local arrangements. Jose C. Principe Risto Miikkulainen

Semi-Riemannian Maps and Their Applications

Free Download Semi-Riemannian Maps and Their Applications By Eduardo García-Río, Demir N. Kupeli (auth.)
1999 | 198 Pages | ISBN: 904815202X | PDF | 12 MB
A major flaw in semi-Riemannian geometry is a shortage of suitable types of maps between semi-Riemannian manifolds that will compare their geometric properties. Here, a class of such maps called semi-Riemannian maps is introduced. The main purpose of this book is to present results in semi-Riemannian geometry obtained by the existence of such a map between semi-Riemannian manifolds, as well as to encourage the reader to explore these maps. The first three chapters are devoted to the development of fundamental concepts and formulas in semi-Riemannian geometry which are used throughout the work. In Chapters 4 and 5 semi-Riemannian maps and such maps with respect to a semi-Riemannian foliation are studied. Chapter 6 studies the maps from a semi-Riemannian manifold to 1-dimensional semi- Euclidean space. In Chapter 7 some splitting theorems are obtained by using the existence of a semi-Riemannian map. Audience: This volume will be of interest to mathematicians and physicists whose work involves differential geometry, global analysis, or relativity and gravitation.
