After Corporate Paternalism Material Renovation and Social Change in Times of Ruination

Free Download Christian Straube, "After Corporate Paternalism: Material Renovation and Social Change in Times of Ruination "
English | ISBN: 1800731337 | 2021 | 178 pages | PDF | 80 MB
In this ethnographic study of post-paternalist ruination and renovation, Christian Straube explores social change at the intersection of material decay and social disconnection in the former mine township Mpatamatu of Luanshya, one of the oldest mining towns on the Zambian Copperbelt. Touching on topics including industrial history, colonial town planning, social control and materiality, gender relations and neoliberal structural change, After Corporate Paternalism offers unique insights into how people reappropriate former corporate spaces and transform them into personal projects of renovation, fundamentally changing the characteristics of their community.

Translucent Building Skins Material Innovations in Modern and Contemporary Architecture

Free Download Scott Murray, "Translucent Building Skins: Material Innovations in Modern and Contemporary Architecture"
English | ISBN: 0415689317 | 2012 | 200 pages | EPUB | 18 MB
Exploring the design of innovative building enclosure systems (or skins) in contemporary architecture and their precedents in earlier twentieth century modern architecture, this book examines the tectonics, the history and the influence of translucency as a defining characteristic in architecture. Highly illustrated throughout with drawings and full colour photographs, the book shows that translucency has been and continues to be a fertile ground for architectural experimentation.

Textile Material Research―Statistical Tools of Experimental Data Analysis

Free Download Textile Material Research―Statistical Tools of Experimental Data Analysis
English | 2024 | ISBN: 9819766060 | 269 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 25 MB
This book presents the effective combination of mathematical statistics, general metrology, and textile metrology to allow data analysis with regard to the evaluation of parameters of fibrous structures. Specialists working in material sciences, where fibrous structures are used, comprehensively understand the specifics of the fabric evaluation and manage in the context of rational use of selected mathematical and statistical methods. In this book, selected methods that are advantageous for data analysis, regardless of whether they are elementary or advanced are presented. The so-called computer-intensive methods are used in many situations when classical statistics is unable to offer a solution, or the solution is too complicated.

Handbook of Material Science Research

Free Download charles Rene, "Handbook of Material Science Research "
English | ISBN: 1607417987 | 2010 | 532 pages | PDF | 14 MB
This book reviews the four classes of materials science, the study of each of which are also considered separate fields: metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. The application of materials science in energetic materials, like explosives and oxidisers, is also an important topic, and thus is extensively reviewed in this book. Furthermore, the microhardness of steel and the various testing methods in polymers is analysed. Specifically, the Vickers microhardness of iron, carbon steels and high-alloyed steels are reviewed. Other chapters in this book explore the process of percolation in cuprate composites. Recently, extensive interest has been focused on the percolation processes in superconducting cuprates, of which physical properties are strongly characterised by the low-dimensional aspects of the crystal structures. Bulk metal glasses (BMGs) are also examined, which are currently the focus of intense research in the world because of their excellent properties and potential applications as engineering materials and functional devises. Other chapters in this book focus on electrodeposition and corrosion properties of zinc-cobalt and zinc-cobalt-iron, the structure and morphology of electrodeposited nickel-cobalt alloy powders, the control of microstructures by heat treatments and high-temperature properties, and the evaluation of fatigue strength methods for machine designs.

Liquid Metal Systems Material Behavior and Physical Chemistry in Liquid Metal Systems 2

Free Download Liquid Metal Systems: Material Behavior and Physical Chemistry in Liquid Metal Systems 2 By W. F. Brehm (auth.), H. U. Borgstedt, Gunter Frees (eds.)
1995 | 419 Pages | ISBN: 1461358140 | PDF | 7 MB
Liquid metal technology has been the subject of an impetuous development in the recent decades, mainly due to the application of liquid met als in nuclear techniques. The technological development has been supported by studies of the basic physical-chemical properties of liquid metals: One major concern is the material behaviour in contact with the liquid metals, corrosion and the possible deterioration of metallic and ceramic materials which are in use as constructional or functional materials in such systems. Since the corrosion is in many cases not only a simple dissolution process, the chemical background of such processes had to be studied. Such studies included the determination of solubilities of metals and non-metals in liquid metals, the measurement of thermodynamic data of dissolved materials and of chemical equilibria. Several formerly unknown chemical compounds are formed in liquid metal~ lnd are only stable in this environment. The research and deve\opment devoted to the fission reactor techniques were more or less completed in several countries, further work is in progress in some countries in which the interest in fast breeder reactors arose recently. Even the worldwide program on fusion reactor technology is related to liquid metals, and severallaboratories are now contributing to this new technology.

The Early Mediterranean Village Agency, Material Culture, and Social Change in Neolithic Italy

Free Download John Robb, "The Early Mediterranean Village: Agency, Material Culture, and Social Change in Neolithic Italy"
English | 2007 | pages: 408 | ISBN: 0521842417 | PDF | 3,9 mb
What was daily life like in Italy between 6000 and 3500 BC? In this book, John Robb brings together the archaeological evidence on a wide range of aspects of life in Neolithic Italy and surrounding regions (Sicily and Malta). Exploring how the routines of daily life structured social relations and human experience during this period, Robb provides a detailed analysis of how people built houses, buried their dead, made and shared a distinctive cuisine, and made the pots and stone tools that archaeologists find.
