English | 2014 | ISBN: 9004250476 | PDF | pages: 348 | 3.0 mb
This book charts the history and influence of the most vitriolic and successful anti-Semitic polemic ever to have been printed in the early modern Hispanic world and offers the first critical edition and translation of the text into English. First printed in Madrid in 1674, the Centinela contra judíos ("Sentinel against the Jews") was the work of the Franciscan Francisco de Torrejoncillo, who wrote it to defend the mission of the Spanish Inquisition, to call for the expansion of discriminatory racial statutes and, finally, to advocate in favour of the expulsion of all the descendants of converted Jews from Spain and its empire. Francisco de Torrejoncillo combined the existing racial, theological, social and economic strands within Spanish anti-Semitism to demonize the Jews and their converted descendants in Spain in a manner designed to provoke strong emotional responses from its readership.

The Cambridge Platonists and Early Modern Philosophy Inventing the Philosophy of Religion

Free Download Samuel M. Kaldas, "The Cambridge Platonists and Early Modern Philosophy: Inventing the Philosophy of Religion "
English | ISBN: 1009426915 | 2024 | 330 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Often neglected by historians today, the seventeenth-century philosophers known as the Cambridge Platonists were recognised in their time as some of the most influential and controversial philosophers in England. Whereas most studies of the Cambridge Platonists have discussed their later careers, this book focuses on their early, formative years at Cambridge during the English Civil Wars. Samuel M. Kaldas explores how the Cambridge Platonists addressed issues central to philosophy of religion as we know it today through their engagement with early seventeenth-century religious controversies about predestination, the character and nature of God, and the role of reason in religion. His study serves as an accessible introduction to both the Cambridge Platonists, and to English religious controversies that contributed to the birth of the modern philosophy of religion. At the same time, Kaldas provides context for and fresh insights into the Cambridge Platonists’ intellectual development and the coherence of their thought.

Modern Technologies in Energy and Transport II

Free Download Modern Technologies in Energy and Transport II by Sergii Boichenko, Artur Zaporozhets, Iryna Shkilniuk, Anna Yakovlieva
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 339 Pages | ISBN : 3031766490 | 59.1 MB
This book selectively defines the current state of technological development of the Ukrainian economy and the prospects for the deployment of energy-efficient technologies in the energy and transport spheres, in particular, in aviation. On the path of its socio-economic development, Ukraine has repeatedly passed through crisis moments that changed the scenarios and trends of the country’s development. Today, Ukraine has to evaluate survival scenarios and, in extreme conditions, revise plans for the country’s further development. The energy sector in Ukraine and the world exists in a dynamic environment and changes in response to internal and external challenges. Technological solutions for deploying the transition to clean renewable energy sources are already widely available in today’s world and continue to develop rapidly. In Ukraine, the problem of energy transition is given special urgency and acuteness by the threat to energy security. The state of Ukraine’s traditional energy industry determines the need to reach a modern technological level with the use of innovative renewable technologies for energy production. Increasing the level of domestic energy efficiency will contribute to the diversification of energy supply of central and distributed energy generating systems, which will ensure the creation of a low-carbon national economy and increase the role of domestic energy in the system of international cooperation, including access to international markets of energy goods and services.

The Battle of Britain in the Modern Age, 1965-2020 The State’s Retreat and Popular Enchantment

Free Download The Battle of Britain in the Modern Age, 1965-2020: The State’s Retreat and Popular Enchantment by Garry Campion
English | October 8, 2019 | ISBN: 3030261093 | 397 pages | MOBI | 9.66 Mb
The Battle of Britain has held an enchanted place in British popular history and memory throughout the modern era. Its transition from history to heritage since 1965 confirms that the 1940 narrative shaped by the State has been sustained by historians, the media, popular culture, and through non-governmental heritage sites, often with financing from the National Lottery Heritage Lottery Fund. Garry Campion evaluates the Battle’s revered place in British society and its influence on national identity, considering its historiography and revisionism; the postwar lives of the Few, their leaders and memorialization; its depictions on screen and in commercial products; the RAF Museum’s Battle of Britain Hall; third-sector heritage attractions; and finally, fighter airfields, including RAF Hawkinge as a case study. A follow-up to Campion’s The Battle of Britain, 1945-1965 (Palgrave, 2015), this book offers an engaging, accessible study of the Battle’s afterlives in scholarship, memorialization, and popular culture.
