There are probably few concepts less understood, more cursed and blamed for everything imaginable, and yet perhaps result in so many outstanding developments as globalisation. Globalisation is the process of denationalisation of markets, politics and legal systems, i.e., the rise of the so-called global economy. The consequences of this political and economic restructuring on local economies, human welfare and environment are the subject of vigorous debate among businesses of all sizes, various international organisations, governmental institutions and the academic world. This book presents current research in the field of globalisation.

Modernity, Modernization, and Globalization Issues and Challenges of the 21st Century

Free Download Ph.D. Shahidullah, Shahid M., "Modernity, Modernization, and Globalization: Issues and Challenges of the 21st Century"
English | ISBN: 1536163236 | 2019 | 312 pages | PDF | 7 MB
This book has examined some of the pressing issues and challenges related to modernity, modernization, and globalization of the 21st century. The book has used historical and comparative perspectives and many extant sources of primary data. The authors have addressed many macro-issues such as modernity and church-state separation, America’s historical role in spreading global modernity, the global expansion of democracy, the rise of a global middle class, the advent of global digital connectivity, and the recent rise of right-wing political parties in the global political landscape. The authors also examined many micro-issues such as modernization and women empowerment in India and Nigeria, the growth of a unique political culture of Islam and modernism in Sierra Leone, the problem of transition to emancipative values in the post-socialist countries of Central and Easter Europe, rise in religious hostilities in South Asia, need for modernization in dealing with minority females in America’s criminal justice system, and modernity and the evolution of the rights of the disabled in America. The empirical and country studies largely support the theme of the book that modernity is a cultural and civilizational model. The global modernity has been progressing across world societies for more than two hundred years. It has been particularly remarkably advancing since the second half of the twentieth century. The world capitalist economy has become more global, world democracy has expanded, the global middle class has vastly grown, women’s economic and political empowerments have widened, and global digital connectivity has increased. These social and economic transformations are far more fundamental for the future progress of democracy and global modernity.

To the surprise of many students of the Soviet Union, religion has shown itself to be a force still powerful in Soviet society. In contrast, the impact of religion in developed Western societies has declined. Dr. Dunn points out that the study of this antinomy can shed light on the entire concept of "modernization" in the U.S.S.R. The study of the

The Ecological Modernization Capacity of Japan and Germany

English | 2019 | pages: 212 | ISBN: 3658274042 | PDF | 4,6 mb
Cognitive-strategic capabilities of a country are decisive for overcoming the strong path dependence in climate-related policies and to achieve ecological and economic modernization. This is the result of a unique comparison approach focusing on four highly intertwined policy areas (Automobiles, Nuclear Energy, Renewables and Rare Earth) in Japan and Germany. Both countries have in principle sufficient economic, technological and institutional capacities for an ecological transformation, but they are lacking an integrated policy strategy to mobilize and organize the existing capacities in favor of structural changes. The focused four policy areas are analyzed in depth and compared by experts from political science.

Free Download Jutta Günther, "Roadblocks to the Socialist Modernization Path and Transition: Evidence from East Germany and Poland "
English | ISBN: 303137049X | 2024 | 347 pages | PDF | 8 MB
This open access book examines how different economic systems impacted the development of East Germany and Poland. Through comparing these countries while they were centrally planned socialist economies with the periods when they transitioned to capitalism, the inability of socialist economies to modernize effectively and produce sustained economic growth is highlighted. Particular attention is given the role of technological progress in economic growth, peculiar institutions, the creation and transfer of knowledge, and post-socialist transformations.
