The Netherlands and European Integration, 1950 to Present

Free Download Mathieu Segers, "The Netherlands and European Integration, 1950 to Present"
English | ISBN: 9463728139 | 2020 | 334 pages | PDF | 3 MB
On 9 May 1950, France launched a revolutionary plan for supranational cooperation in Western Europe. The Netherlands was taken completely by surprise. In the decades that followed, European integration moved forward at an unprecedented pace, taking the Netherlands with it. Geography and the post-war world seemed to leave the country no other choice. European integration forced ― and is still forcing ― the Netherlands on a far-reaching ‘journey to the continent’. For the Netherlands, European integration represents a difficult journey to a new old world that often seems far off. How has that journey progressed so far? Why did the Netherlands join the common European market and currency from the very beginning? Was this course inevitable? And where has it brought the country? Using new, international source material, The Netherlands and European Integration, 1950 to Present digs deeply into the history of the Netherlands in Europe ― a subject that is today more topical than ever.

Postcolonial Memory in the Netherlands Meaningful Voices, Meaningful Silences

Free Download Gerlov van Engelenhoven, "Postcolonial Memory in the Netherlands: Meaningful Voices, Meaningful Silences "
English | ISBN: 9463726179 | 2022 | 162 pages | PDF | 1159 KB
This book is about postcolonial memory in the Netherlands. This term refers to conflicts in contemporary society about how the colonial past should be remembered. The question is often: who has the right or ability to tell their stories and who do not? In other words: who has a voice, and who is silenced? As such, these conflicts represent a wider tendency in cultural theory and activism to use voice as a metaphor for empowerment and silence as voice’s negative counterpart, signifying powerlessness. And yet, there are voices that do not liberate us from, but rather subject us to power. Meanwhile, silence can be powerful: it can protect, disrupt and reconfigure. Throughout this book, it will become clear how voice and silence function not as each other’s opposites, but as each other’s continuation, and that postcolonial memory is articulated through the interplay of meaningful voices and meaningful silences.

Dismissal Law in the Netherlands A Practical Guide

Free Download Mirjam de Blecourt, "Dismissal Law in the Netherlands: A Practical Guide"
English | ISBN: 9462366500 | 2016 | 132 pages | PDF | 2 MB
In July 2015, dismissal laws in the Netherlands were changed drastically. The objective was to make dismissal laws simpler, fairer, faster and cheaper. However, it has become clear that this objective will not be met. Severance packages have not been diminished to the lower transition payment and the more expensive Cantonal Court formula has not been abolished in practice. Compensation claims are on the rise and dismissing ill employees has become extremely difficult. Explanations of the new laws in the English language are currently wanting. In order to facilitate multinationals and other international clients, Mirjam A. de Blecourt now fills this gap with this practical guide. As the laws are complicated, the booklet is written to guide the reader in a pragmatic and efficient way. It will be useful to those who work in Human Resources in the Netherlands and have to report in English; to non-Dutch owners and investors with companies in the Netherlands (or who wish to invest in the Netherlands in the future); to lawyers and other advisors who conduct their business in the English language; as well as employees who have been seconded to the Netherlands. It could help them understand Dutch dismissal rules before they sign an employment contract. Finally, the booklet is also of interest to students who are interested in employment and dismissal laws. Free Download Daniela Aguilar Abaunza, "The Law for Energy Prosumers: The Case of the Netherlands, New Zealand and Colombia"
English | 2022 | ISBN: 981194170X, 9811941734 | PDF | pages: 271 | 4.9 mb
This book argues that law has a vital role in shaping the electricity system to enable a more active role for consumers in liberalizsed electricity industries. To do that, this book offers a unique legal perspective of the Netherlands, New Zealand and Colombia to help understand some of the current legal approaches to prosumers and therefore the legal challenges and opportunities facing. Law and regulation have the role of creating a level playing field for emerging participants, such as prosumers, to participate and compete in the market together with traditional actors, bringing not only more competition but also representing a more sustainable, environmental and democratic way to supply energy. Furthermore, law and regulation have the role of responding to innovation and creating space for technological advances to procure the changes in the industry without delay.
