Neurobiology Ionic Channels, Neurons and the Brain

Free Download Neurobiology: Ionic Channels, Neurons and the Brain By G. Bucossi, M. Nizzari, V. Torre (auth.), Vincent Torre, Franco Conti (eds.)
1996 | 393 Pages | ISBN: 1461377064 | PDF | 26 MB
Understanding how the brain works is undoubtedly the greatest challenge for human intelligence and one of the most ambitious goals of contemporary science. We are certainly far from this goal, but significant advancements in several fields of Neuroscience and Neurobiology are being obtained at an increasing pace. The NATO ASI School in Neurobiology, held in Erice May 2-12,1995, as the 23rd Course of the International School of Biophysics, provided an update on three basic topics: Biophysics and Molecular Biology ofIon Channels, Sensory Transduction, and Higher Order Functions. Current knowledge on these subjects was covered by formal lectures and critical discussions between lecturers and participants. This book collects original contributions from those scientists who attended the School. Many students presented their results in poster sessions, steering lively informal discussions. A selection of these contributions is also included. A major portion of the program of the School was devoted to a general overview of current trends of thought and experimental approaches in neurobiology, emphasising the importance of understanding molecular aspects of the elementary events underlying sensory transduction and processing in the nervous system, without indulging however in a pure reductionistic view of such complex phenomena. Recent studies of molecular biology and the electrophysiology of heterologously expressed ionic channels, have shed new light on the molecular mechanisms underlying ionic permeation of excitable membranes and its regulation by physical and chemical parameters.

English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 744 Pages | ISBN : 303168589X | 48.8 MB
The focus of this book is to describe the current understanding of the interactions between the nervous system and cancer and the use of this information in the treatment and prevention of cancer. Author and noted researcher Boris Mravec presents a clearly written and well-illustrated monograph on this rapidly developing new field. The book begins with an exploration of the basic concepts supporting the neurobiology of cancer, discusses the ways in which the nervous system affects all the hallmarks of cancer, delves extensively into stress and cancer, covers the etiopathogenetic consequences of the neurobiology of cancer, the implications for cancer prevention and treatment, and looks at future directions in the field.

Viral Vector Approaches in Neurobiology and Brain Diseases

Free Download Viral Vector Approaches in Neurobiology and Brain Diseases By Alessandro Papale, Riccardo Brambilla (auth.), Riccardo Brambilla (eds.)
2014 | 347 Pages | ISBN: 1627036091 | PDF | 6 MB
Aiming toward improvement in the safety, efficiency, and specificity of viral vectors for neurobiological research and clinical applications, Viral Vector Approaches in Neurobiology and Brain Diseases covers key aspects related to the use of viral vectors in neuroscience, with a major emphasis on basic mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory, as well as molecular neuropharmacology and experimental animal models of brain disorders. The volume begins by delving into features of the viral vectors currently available in neuroscience and their production methods, and it then continues onward to examples of successful applications of viral vector technology to psychiatric and memory research, current applications of viral vector technology in the context of neurological disorders, as well as various cutting-edge applications of viral vector technology to neuroscience, including optogenetics. Written for the Neuromethods series, the chapters of this book contain the kind of detailed description and implementation advice that promotes successful, repeatable results.Practical and up to date, Viral Vector Approaches in Neurobiology and Brain Diseases will be useful not only to neurobiologists wishing to routinely use viral vectors in the laboratory but also to experienced scientists needing detailed new protocols for a variety of experimental applications.

Neurobiology of Mental Illness Ed 4

Free Download Dennis S. Charney, "Neurobiology of Mental Illness Ed 4"
English | ISBN: 0199934959 | 2013 | 1248 pages | AZW3 | 23 MB
Our understanding of the neurobiological basis of psychiatric disease has accelerated in the past five years. The fourth edition of Neurobiology of Mental Illness has been completely revamped given these advances and discoveries on the neurobiologic foundations of psychiatry. Like its predecessors the book begins with an overview of the basic science. The emerging technologies in Section 2 have been extensively redone to match the progress in the field including new chapters on the applications of stem cells, optogenetics, and image guided stimulation to our understanding and treatment of psychiatric disorders. Sections’ 3 through 8 pertain to the major psychiatric syndromes-the psychoses, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, dementias, and disorders of childhood-onset. Each of these sections includes our knowledge of their etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment. The final section discusses special topic areas including the neurobiology of sleep, resilience, social attachment, aggression, personality disorders and eating disorders. In all, there are 32 new chapters in this volume including unique insights on DSM-5, the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) from NIMH, and a perspective on the continuing challenges of diagnosis given what we know of the brain and the mechanisms pertaining to mental illness. This book provides information from numerous levels of analysis including molecular biology and genetics, cellular physiology, neuroanatomy, neuropharmacology, epidemiology, and behavior. In doing so it translates information from the basic laboratory to the clinical laboratory and finally to clinical treatment. No other book distills the basic science and underpinnings of mental disorders and explains the clinical significance to the scope and breadth of this classic text. The result is an excellent and cutting-edge resource for psychiatric residents, psychiatric researchers, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows the neurosciences.
